Baldur’s Gate 3’s next early access update is coming, increasing the size of the RPG to 104 GB

Baldur’s Gate 3 will get another major content update, Patch 8, before exiting Early Access. Patch 8 looks like a pretty big update, almost double the size of Larian Studios’ upcoming RPG.
“Patch 8 is coming and it will be around 40 GB (so make sure you have free space!), bringing the total install size of Baldur’s Gate 3 to around 104 GB,” Larian Studios wrote in a Steam blog post. “As with our previous patches, saves made on patch 7 or earlier will no longer be compatible when updated.”
Larian Studios is also doing some “digital house cleaning” with Patch 8, as the update will remove the ability to download Patches 1-5. “Patches 6 and 7 are still available for download, but we encourage all players to update to the latest version of the game to receive the latest fixes and content updates,” the studio wrote.
If you want to continue your patch 7 save file when patch 8 is released, follow these steps:
- Right-click a game in your Steam library
- select properties
- Click the Test tab
- In the list under “Choose the beta you want to join”, select Patch 6
- Close the properties menu
Larian Studios also states that you should remove all installed Baldur’s Gate 3 mods before updating the game and downloading Patch 8.
Although Larian Studios has yet to confirm whether more playable classes will be added to Baldur’s Gate 3, the studio has added new classes over the past few major patches – with patch 7 adding barbarian classes such as Join Priests, Druids, Warriors, Rangers, Rogues, Wizards, Warlocks and Wizards. Larian Studios appears to have taken inspiration from Dungeons & Dragons fifth edition to design Baldur’s Gate 3’s classes, so Patch 8 could see the addition of a bard, paladin or monk.
Although this is the eighth update for Baldur’s Gate 3, the game won’t be launching in 1.0 this year. Baldur’s Gate 3 will open early in 2023. The finishing touches – such as the conclusion of a partner’s romance – are being saved for version 1.0.
