Diablo 3 Season 26 Starts Today, Includes Brand New Events

As we get closer to the release of Diablo IV, Diablo III continues its seasonal updates, with the latest Season 26 kicking off today at 5pm PT/8pm ET. It’s going to sound scary, so if you’re worried about being spooked, it’s best to play with the lights on. Maybe.

The theme of Season 26 is Echoing Nightmare, which is also the name of a new event that pits you through an “intensive, increasingly challenging campaign” that showcases what happens if you fail your mission as Nephalem. Decorative bonuses are items that first appeared in Season 14, including the Portrait Frame and the Pennant of Justice.

Diablo III Season 26

The update comes as Blizzard also continues to make tweaks and additions to Diablo II: Resurrection, a remake of the classic dungeon crawler. Patch 2.4 updates each class as Diablo II’s first game update in over a decade.

The full patch notes for Diablo III are below. In addition to all the platform changes, the Xbox Series X version now also runs in native 4K, while the Series S version remains at 1080p.

Diablo III Season 26 Patch Notes

Season theme details:

  • Petrified Scream and Echoing Nightmare are only accessible through seasonal characters.
  • In multiplayer, only one player needs to transform Petrified Scream to open the Echoing Nightmare.
  • Similar to boss encounters, all players in multiplayer must accept a prompt to enter.
  • In Echoing Nightmares, the difficulty increases as the player progresses through the encounter. Players can progress faster by defeating monsters quickly.
  • Players will receive the following rewards upon completing Echoing Nightmares: Experience Points, Legendary Items, Blood Shards, Gems, and the new Legendary Gem, Whispers of Atonement.
  • Whispers of Atonement is a Legendary Gem designed to enhance Ancient Legendary items. It will drop based on the player’s performance in Echoing Nightmare.
  • Rare monsters now spawn in Echoing Nightmares.
  • Shooting stars are now falling from the sky.
  • A hellish conspiracy now emerges and it creates a stream of exploding lunatics.
  • Rift Guardians now generate.
  • Increased the frequency of monster spawns.
  • Updated Shadow Clone Explosion to better reflect the area of ​​effect.
  • The logout timer has been increased to 60 seconds.
  • Raises the possible level of Whispers of Atonement to 125 based on the level completed.
  • Monsters in Nightmare Echoes can no longer be frozen, stunned, rooted, or knocked back.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the Temple of the Pipes to deal less damage than intended.

New update (post PTR)

  • Monsters in Nightmare Echoes no longer drop gold, items, or health orbs.
  • Adjusted the damage dealt by Exploding Maniacs and Meteors to be more deadly.
  • Adjusted Meteor and Corrupted Maniac Molten damage to physical damage.
  • Adjusted the difficulty above level 100.
  • Replaced shield towers with speed towers.
  • Adjusted the experience for Echoes of Nightmare rewards to be consistent with Greater Rift turn-in rewards.
  • Reduced Echoing Nightmare’s shutdown timer to 30 seconds.
  • Prevents Nightmare Echoes from opening in games below level 70.
  • Adjusted the drop rate of the Greater Rift Guardian Petrified Scream.

Greater Rift Update

We hope to improve the Greater Rift experience with quality of life updates, balance changes, and addressing community feedback. We’ve reviewed all the maps and monsters that appear in Greater Rifts and have redesigned the overall odds to ensure players spend more time on the content they love. Eat less pasta, eat more chicken!

Orik’s Dream: Greater Rifts have a small chance of scrolling like Orik’s Dream. These fantastic rifts have a curated list of maps and monster combinations.

  • 3 maps have been added and 2 maps have been removed from the Great Rift Pool.
    • Added: Affliction, Desolate Sands and Thorns Graveyard
    • Removed: Caldeum Sewer and Hidden Aqueduct
  • Adjusted the probability of the Great Rift map.
  • Adjusted the probability of monster groups.
  • The following monsters have been adjusted to provide more progression and experience in Greater Rifts.

  • Updated the visual effects when entering the Aurek Dream.
  • Updated Orek’s Dream vignette to make it more visible.

  • Legacy of Raekor (4-piece bonus): Furious Charge gains the effect of each rune and deals 1000% increased damage. Your Ancient Spear’s damage is increased by 2% for every 1% of life you lose.
  • Legacy of Raekor (6-piece bonus): Hitting an enemy with Furious Charge or Weapon Throw increases the damage of your next Ancient Spear by 5500% and causes it to unleash multiple spears from the target. This effect is stackable, consuming up to 5 stacks per spear throw.
  • Law of Arreat: Weapon Throwing and Ancient Spear deal 150-200% increased damage.
    • Weapon throws generate up to 25 50 additional rage based on the distance to the enemy hit. The generated rage can exceed the cap of 200 rage.
    • Ancient Spear refunds up to 25 50 Fury based on distance to hit enemies, and resets your Fury cap to its base maximum.
  • Three Hundred Guns: Increases the damage of weapon throwing and ancient guns by 150-200%. Weapon throwing has 200% increased attack speed.
  • Skular’s Salvation: Ancient Spear damage increased by 150-200%. If your Ancient Spear – Boulder Throw hits 5 or fewer enemies, its damage is increased by 100%.

Developer Note: We’ve added additional weapon throwing buffs to give players more build options when playing the reworked Raekor’s Legacy set. We’ve also updated the Law of Arreat to allow players to reach new Fury levels.

Developer Note: We reworked Raekor’s Legacy to give the series its own identity. The team naturally combined the charging fantasy of Raekor’s legacy with the barbarian’s ranged skills.

crusader

  • Invoker’s Thorns: Punish and Slash attack 100% faster and deal 67,500% Thorns damage.
  • Norwald’s Frenzy: Increases damage by 200% while using Steed Charge and for 5 seconds after it ends.

Developer Note: Norwald’s enthusiasm worked well in multiple sets. We want to lower its power, but we’re increasing the utility of Invoker’s Thorns to make up for it.

monk

  • All mystical allies spawned by Inna’s Mantra 6-piece bonus now refresh their duration with each attack.
  • Mystical Allies – Fire Allies: Mini Allies are now passable.
  • Mystical Allies – Earth Allies:
    • The speed of Earth ally boulders has been increased. No matter how many monsters are on the screen, the boulders always bind the player.
    • Prevent Earth Allies’ boulders from being slowed down by missile damping.

Developer Note: We’ve made improvements to Mystic Ally that should make the skill feel smoother and less clunky at times.

  • Binding of the Lesser Gods: Enemies hit by your Whirlwind Strike take 150%-200% increased damage from your Mystical Allies for 5 seconds.

Developer Note: We were happy with the gameplay of Inna’s Mantra Monks, but Fire was too good, so we removed the Fire Ally bonus from Bindings of the Minor Gods.

Bugfixes | 2.7.3

  • Prevents players from changing difficulty while Echoes of Nightmare is active.
  • Fixed a bug where Hoarder’s Bounty would allow gold to drop in Nightmare Echoes.
  • Fixed a bug where Aurek’s Dream Interlude would sometimes disappear in Shrouded Swamps and Festering Forests when entering anywhere other than level 1.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Oric’s Dream opening VFX to display inconsistently.
