There will be no E3 in 2022. The cancellation makes 2022 the second year in two-and-a-half years that E3 has not been held. Another year without E3 was 2020, when the event was canceled due to lockdowns at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The annual Entertainment Software Association trade event began in 1995, and while its relevance has fluctuated over the years (2007 was horrific), it has long been regarded as the game industry’s most important event. There was an E3 last year, although it was online and not at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This year, there will be no physical or online E3. According to ESA, it’s been canceled entirely, although that’s not the end of E3.

“E3 will return in 2023 with a reinvigorated showcase of new and exciting video games and industry innovations,” the group said in an email to PC Gamer. It plans to return to Los Angeles for the show, But said there will also be a digital component.

The question this year now becomes how much of an absence from E3 will we notice. Today, in the minds of gamers and the industry itself, E3 is the collection of many events and gatherings that take place every June on Twitch, YouTube, and in and around the Los Angeles Convention Center, not all of which are related to Euro Air. Bureau program.

In the past, flashy E3 press conferences from Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, and major game publishers were officially considered E3 events, but in recent years, some of these companies have opted for their own affairs. For example, Sony skipped E3 2021, and EA has been hosting EA Play Live around E3 week in recent years, but not as part of E3.

Originally scheduled for June 11-14 this year, the convention also attracted performances from non-publishers. PC Gamer itself started its annual PC Gaming Show in 2015. We’re back this year: PC Gaming Show 2022 is scheduled for this June.

In addition to producing and hosting the Game of the Year Awards, Geoff Keighley also shines at the Summer Games Festival during E3 week. He tweeted a wink emoji following news of E3 2022’s cancellation. He then officially announced the return of the Summer Games Festival.

Excited to share that @SummerGameFest will be back this June with a series of events. We’ll be making another Kickoff Live show with announcements, news and debuts. More to be shared in the coming weeks, as well as some really cool new elements from 22 years. pic.twitter.com/jjXLG8XuehMarch 31, 2022

There were a few other E3-adjacent streams from last year that could return this June with a bigger conference. With the convention center floor not expected to start, the only thing missing from this year’s E3 compared to last year may be letters and numbers. We expect a lot of activity during that week of June and before and after.
