Street Fighter 6 will be released in 2023, with an open-world story mode
🌐
Following its announcement earlier this year, Street Fighter VI got a major gameplay reveal at the PlayStation State of Play event. Street Fighter 6 is planned for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC in 2023.
The trailer showed off the traditional combat that fans have come to expect in a Street Fighter game, but it seems the next Street Fighter will be set in an open-world story mode in Metropolis. The World Tour model seems to revolve around training a fighter for a tournament.
We also saw several characters in action, including series mainstays Ryu, Chun-Li, and DLC character Luke from Street Fighter V. Combat looks gorgeous, with over-animated kicks, punches and signature moves.
Street Fighter 6 will have an online multiplayer suite called Battle Hub, which was briefly shown at the end of the trailer. Access to Battle Hub requires a PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold membership.
It’s been more than six years since Street Fighter V was released, although the game has released a slew of DLC and updates, including an arcade version in 2018 and a champion version in 2020. Notably, this will be the first mainline Street Fighter game to be released since longtime series producer Yoshinori Ono left.
