As you might guess from the name, Nintendo Switch Sports is the latest game in Nintendo’s hugely popular sports series, which started with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort. Like Wii games, Nintendo Switch Sports features a range of competitive sports-based mini-games, including badminton, bowling, chambara, soccer, tennis, and volleyball. Golf will be added in an update later this year. The controls for each game are again action-based, and since the Switch comes with two Joy-Cons, this could be a great local multiplayer game. However, if you want to challenge other players remotely, Nintendo Switch Sports will also include an online multiplayer mode. If you’ve ever wondered “How did the Nintendo Switch become more popular?” Well, Nintendo Switch Sports might do the trick. Nintendo Switch Sports will launch on April 29. The physical version comes with Joy-Con leg straps for use while playing football.

Mario Striker: Battle League marks the return of one of the best Mario sports franchises, ending a long hiatus while becoming the third Mario-themed sports game on Switch. While the in-game sport “Strike” is based on real-world football, the rules are completely different – and more connected. Players choose from a roster of Mario characters, each with their own abilities, and take on the field in 5-on-5 matches against AI players or in local or online multiplayer. Just like in football, you can score by putting the ball into the opposing team’s net, but in Strike you can tackle and tackle other players, and equip gear that improves your character’s offensive and defensive stats. Mario Striker vs. League will be released on June 10.

If you’ve longed for more Fire Emblem story after Three Houses, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes might do the trick. While Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is a hack and slash game rather than a turn-based strategy RPG like Three Houses, the story of Three Hopes follows the Many characters in Three Houses. We’ll have to wait and see if Three Hopes is a direct sequel to Persona 5, like Persona 5 Strikers, or if it’s set in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity In another timeline, but either way, more adventures in the land of Verdland are enticing. Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes hits theaters June 24th.

Super Famicom’s original Live A Live was one of the funniest JRPGs of the 16-bit console era, but it was never released outside of Japan. Thankfully, Nintendo and Square Enix are finally righting this decades-long mistake with the upcoming Nintendo Switch Live A Live remake. Live A Live contains seven mini-RPG scenarios in one game, each with its own protagonist and background, unique art style and combat mechanics. An eighth unlockable scene ties together various plot threads. The original Live A Live inspired other beloved JRPGs such as Chrono Trigger and more recently Octopath Traveler. Coincidentally, the Switch remake uses the HD-2D style Square Enix started with Octopath Traveler and seen in other games like Triangle Strategy and the upcoming Dragon Quest III remake, bringing the full cycle. Live A Live hits theaters July 22.

July 29

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 promises to be the biggest RPG for Switch in 2022, and it’s coming sooner than expected. Nintendo recently announced that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will be released on July 29, about two months ahead of the original September 2022 window. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is sure to deliver dozens of hours of MMO-style action and a story that promises to live up to its predecessors.

If you need to catch up on the franchise, you can grab the first two mainline entries in the series on Nintendo Switch. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is currently on sale at Amazon for $45. At the same time, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is hard to find retail prices for the physical version. Your best bet is to grab a digital copy from the Switch eShop.

September 9

Nintendo ended the summer with Splatoon 3, and we now know it’s coming on September 9th. Splatoon 3 will bring back the fun of spray painting in several different modes. Of course, online multiplayer with multiple match types will be the main selling point, but Nintendo is also bringing back the co-op salmon run mode. And, for the first time in series history, a single-player story mode is available. Splatoon 2’s excellent Octo expansion adds a story post-release. If you haven’t played the Octo expansion, it’s now available as part of the Switch Online expansion.

end of 2022

2022 has been a great year for Pokemon games on Switch: The year started with the legendary Arceus and ended with the launch of the new ninth-generation Pokemon games Scarlet and Violet.

Scarlet and Violet are set in a brand new area of the Pokemon world, seemingly inspired by Spain and Portugal. The Iberian Peninsula version of Game Freak will showcase the series’ first truly open world, with towns seamlessly blending with their surroundings. Wild Pokemon will freely roam the landscape, much like the wild areas of recent Pokemon saga Arceus and Sword and Shield. However, it’s unclear if the traditional capture and combat mechanics will return in Scarlet and Violet, or if they’ll double down on the new system introduced in Legends Arceus.what are we going to do Do What is known, however, are three new starter Pokemon: Grass-type Sprigatito, Fire-type Fuecoco, and Water-type Quaxley. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will launch in “late 2022”.

TBD 2022

It seems like we already knew Bayonetta 3 was in development forever, but after last fall’s game, its release doesn’t seem so far away. While Nintendo has yet to announce an official release window, Bayonetta 3 is expected to arrive sometime in 2022 (the eShop lists it as a 2022 window). Known for some of the wildest camp action shooters around, Bayonetta is both charming and deadly, defeating hordes of angels and demons with flowing hair that would make Rapunzel jealous. It’s for this reason and more that we think Bayonetta 3 is one of the biggest upcoming Nintendo Switch games.

TBD 2022

Nintendo and Ubisoft’s tactical crossover with Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle surprises even the most rusty genre veterans with its whimsical setting and clever gameplay, so we’re excited that the sequel, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, is coming. This time, Mario and his rabbi friends venture out to save the galaxy with Rabbi Rosalina and Rabbi-Ruma hybrid known as “The Spark.” Not content to stay with the grid-based combat of its predecessor, Mario + Rabbit: Fire of Hope, it includes more real-time combat elements in addition to a greater focus on world exploration. Beloved video game composer Grant Kirkhope is also returning to score this tune, so there’ll be plenty of great music to listen to as you battle through a refreshed look. Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope will bring its wacky genre hybrid action to the Nintendo Switch sometime this year.
