Bethesda has released a new purchasable Elder Scrolls online add-on, a familiar-looking feline named Catwell, which appears to be a reference to an old Elder Scrolls character

The developer took to Twitter to reveal the newest optional player pet, now available on the Crown Store for a limited time, showcasing Catwell’s cat wearing kitchenware as a body armor and helmet. “There was something in the eyes of this feline friend that seemed familiar, but we weren’t entirely sure about it,” the developers said.

There was something in the eyes of this feline friend that seemed familiar, but we couldn’t be sure of it. 🤔 Maybe you can give this happy good man a home? Catwell is now on sale at the Crown Store for a limited time! https://t.co/xh9bzx6aTd pic.twitter.com/zioyfqBKvj

Players discovered that Catwell was actually a cat version of the Elder Scrolls character Sir Caldwell. As the NPC’s Wiki page explains, Sir Caldwell is a “happy and mad lost soul” formerly known as Caldwell the Betrayal, a warrior and knight from a long time ago. The character also wears a similar metal pan as a helmet, so it’s clear that Catwell is an ode to NPCs.

“The cat’s eyes seemed to say, ‘Nice to meet you! We seem to have a small group of rodents. Scary reptiles. Scattering around. Well, flying blights. I know a good joke. What? Oh yes. Good day hunting!” reads the caption.

As mentioned, the Catwell is a limited-time optional pet that can be purchased from ESO’s in-game store for 1,000 crowns (~$10). It’s unclear how long the add-on will last, so if players want to adopt this strange feline, now is their chance.

In other news, ESO recently received its latest DLC, Ascending Tide, which includes a new PvE dungeon, Shipright’s Regret, and The Coral Aerie.
