The Elder Scrolls Online: High Island – Release Date, New Story and Everything We Know

Bethesda and ZeniMax Online’s MMORPG The Elder Scrolls Online continues to grow and shows no signs of stopping, recently reaching the milestone of over 20 million players. The next chapter in The Elder Scrolls Online, due this summer, will take players to an unprecedented part of Tamriel and focus on one of the less explored races in the Elder Scrolls series, the Bretons. It’s called High Island, and it’s part of this year’s Elder Scrolls Online Calendar Adventures of Brittany’s Legacy. Here’s what you need to know about your next big Elder Scrolls adventure.

Release date and platform

The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle launches June 6 for PC, Mac and Stadia players. Console players on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S will have to wait even longer, with the new chapter coming on June 21.

Takashima’s political story

The superior mage and the superior lord conspired.

High Isle’s story is described as a return to the series’ roots, a more solid, realistic story about bickering factions, politics, and intrigue. This is a departure from the game’s other recent chapters, which see players battling demonic invasions and apocalyptic threats. On Takashimaya, players will uncover a conspiracy to disrupt secret peace talks organized by the humanitarian organization Steadfast, which could end the game’s ongoing Three Flags War.

This conspiracy is carried out by the Ascendant Order, a separatist organization led by the mysterious Ascendant Lord and Ascendant Magus, two characters operating in the shadows whose identities players will uncover in this chapter. Players will be able to learn more about Brittany’s high society and its knightly culture through various side quests on Takashimaya, which should appeal to fans of The Elder Scrolls lore. Prior to this new chapter, there were no existing lore about Takashima, only appearing on a map in 1998’s The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Red Guards, allowing ZeniMax Online to collaborate on Takashima’s tales and lore from a single piece of cloth with Bethesda Game Studios.

Takashimaya New District and Contents

Breton society is known for its chivalry.

The High Isle chapter of The Elder Scrolls Online takes players to the Systres Archipelago, an archipelago consisting of two islands – the titular High Isle and the prison island Amenos. Players will be able to explore both. The High Island is the epitome of Breton culture, with stunning castles, vast tourneys and majestic seaside cliffs, where the high society of Breton travels here to get away from it all for a little rest and entertainment. Amenos, on the other hand, is a lush rainforest island where Breton society sends its worst criminals and political prisoners to fend for themselves and fight for survival.

According to ZeniMax Online, High Isle’s main story and its various side quests represent approximately 30 hours of new content. Some of this content includes the new Dreadsail Reef, a 12-player trial in which players will battle a horde of bloodthirsty pirates similar in scope to the game’s Rockgrove trials. There are also two new recruitable companions, the Khajiit wizard Ember and the Breton knight Isobel Velois. In addition, High Isle will introduce a new world event Volcanic Vents for players to participate in. As with previous Elder Scrolls Online chapters, players won’t need to level up through old content to experience High Isle, but instead can jump right into the content they’re most interested in, including the new High Isle area.

A tribute to the story of the card game

Two players prepare to play a round of Tales of Tribute.

One of the biggest additions to High Isle is the brand new cosmic card game Tales of Tribute. Tales of Tribute is described as a competitive resource gathering deck builder where players compete to earn more victory points than their opponents, Tales of Tribute can be used as part of a PvE storyline or against other players against various worlds NPCs. To play Tribute Stories, players shuffle a total of four patron decks (two per player) and draw cards from the shared deck. Since the decks are shuffled together and used by both players, veterans who unlock or level up more cards won’t have a significant material advantage over new players.

There will be a total of 8 Patron Decks at launch, each with around 20 cards that are thematically linked and have unique mechanics. Players will unlock four decks after completing the in-game Tales of Tribute tutorial, and the remaining four decks will be unlocked through play. The cards in these decks can be leveled up by leveling up the game’s competition, completing achievements, or through other activities in The Elder Scrolls Online.

When actually playing “Tribute Legend”, players need to collect resources such as gold coins to buy cards, and then they can play these cards and get various effects, such as getting extra gold coins, drawing extra cards, etc. There are two ways to win in Tales of Tribute, either by getting 40 points ahead of your opponent, or by getting the favor of all four “patrons” in the game at the same time. Each patron has its own costs and requirements, so pleasing all four at once is no small feat.

In addition to the thrill of victory, playing Tribute Legends will provide players with numerous rewards, including gold coins, consumables, crafting materials, cosmetics, transformation crystals, household items, and more, which can be used in other aspects of The Elder Scrolls Online .
