What happened to the Ring of Eldon? The Game’s Story, Part 6: The Giant’s Mountaintop

You defeat Morgott and head to Erdtree, only to find your way blocked. During your journey through the Elden Ring, your goal has always been to travel to the Erdtree and claim the title of Elden Lord, but even though you’ve got some Great Runes at this point, there are still some forces that are preventing you from entering the tree and claiming yours thing. There’s more to the Erdtree and Elden Ring story, but we won’t find out about it just yet. Now, we have to figure out how to move forward, and the mission is about to take us to the land of the people Marika and the Golden Order have truly conquered: the Mountain of Giants.

The frozen lands north of Leyndell appear to be less visited, which also makes them a haven for some. It was here that two other demigods tried to make their homes: Maria and Miquela, and the children of Malika and Ragan. Finding the two shard holders — or at least Malenia — isn’t easy, but doing so sheds more light on the Elden Ring’s story and what happened between the time it was broken.

As always, this article contains lots of spoilers.

Heresy Road

Finding out that Erdtree is blocked doesn’t leave you with many options. Your only real action at this point is to go back to the roundtable and visit the finger reader Enia and two fingers for help. After all, it was the guidance of grace that brought you to this point, so why seal the Erd tree? Doesn’t grace come from two fingers and a greater will? Haven’t you been following some divine plan?

Getting back to Enia was… fun. Two Fingers didn’t seem well prepared for this development, and they didn’t know what to do. You’ll see them stiffen as they point high, and Enia says they’re communicating with a greater will.Obviously, this may require a extremely For a long time, it seemed that because of the distance between the land and the big will, it almost left you in the air.

From here, you negotiate with Enia and Melina, who both have the same answer: burn the Erdtree to break the seal of thorns in the block. Both will tell you that this is a big sin, absolutely terrible thing. After all, all life flows in and out of the Erdtree, or we are led to believe.Souls return to Erdtree after death, and those do not Return as undead monsters, known as those who live in death. It’s unclear what the consequences of placing this giant golden tree at the center of the world will be on fire would be in the land in between, but there doesn’t seem to be any other option to get the Elden Ring. The world cannot truly stay the same, and no god can stop it from collapsing and stagnating.

At least, Melina seems to think that this is not just the only option, but the purpose of her existence. She believes that the land in between needs an indiscriminate death return to resolve what has happened, and in order for the world to return to death, Erdtree must be destroyed.Until now, the goal of her entire journey was to reach Erdtree and try to discover or recall why She’s been around since the beginning – she tells you early in the game that she was created by her mother for a specific reason, but over time she’s forgotten what that was. We don’t know who Melina’s mother was, although Erdtree’s involvement strongly suggests that Melina’s mother may have been Marika (although there are many other theories about Melina, and we have no clear way to prove or disprove any of them anyone). Once you reach the tree, Melina will believe her purpose is to destroy the tree and bring the world back to death.

After defeating Morgott, the two fingers will become stiff. According to Enia, they are communicating with a greater will, but they have no wisdom to offer – forcing you to take matters into your own hands.

Enia also seemed curious, perhaps for her own reasons. Even though the finger reader indicates that burning Erdtree is a big sin, she doesn’t make any particular point about stopping you; after a quick warning, she basically says, “Well, it’s up to you, do what you want.” You also don’t get any information from both fingers, who spend the rest of the game trying to communicate with the greater will. Enia also strongly advises that you will always wait to hear from the Big Will, subtly suggesting that you will need to take matters into your own hands. If you talk to another finger reader on the way to the top of the Giant’s Mountain, she’ll beg you to turn your back, even saying, “Who would dare you to do such a task? Definitely not a finger!” Maybe the roundtable finger reader isn’t quite there trustworthy.

There’s no other option, though, so plan to head to the east end of Leyndell and the Grand Lift in Rold, which can take you up the mountain. You first have to venture through the Forbidden Land, a sort of no-man’s-land between Rindel and the top of the mountain. The location of the area is interesting as it is close to Leyndell. This indicates that Marika has blocked the entire area to everyone, and that almost no one has traveled north since then. We don’t know all the answers to why, but since we’re going there to find the fire that can burn the Erdtree, we can intuitively think that these giants are the main threat to the Golden Order – even after they’ve been defeated. Crossing the forbidden area, you will take the Roald Gondola to the top of the mountain, where your journey to the top begins.

Before venturing to the top, though, your trail might take you to a secret spot in the mountains. It is a place sought by the oppressed, and the paths to it are hidden and protected. That place is Miquela’s Hallegttree, and if it wasn’t for the interference of others, another era might have begun. If you go there, you can face the demigod Malenia and get another great rune. But first, we’ll cover the process of climbing the mountain.

Marika’s First War

Your goal at the top of the Giants is to capture the fire of destruction, the remnants of their culture and the “fallen gods” they worship. We don’t know much about this fallen god, but we do know that it is a danger to the Erd tree itself – the fire giant’s flame is the only thing that can burn the tree, which makes the giants and their fallen gods very suspicious of Mary The power of the card and the golden order pose a major threat.

Marika’s war with the giants has led her to seal the only real threat to the Erd tree: the fire of destruction.

They first went to war against the giants when Marika first became a god and accepted Godfrey as her Lord of Aiden. You can actually follow Marika’s path in the Lands Between based on where her church is located, where the first Marika church was found on the top of the hill. The trail winds southward, and Lyngrave and the Weeping Peninsula are the last places she takes. Leyndell may have existed before Marika, but she is likely responsible for fortifying the capital into a fortified place, and its location and fortification seem to have been at least partly designed to isolate the road to the top of the mountain. Although Marika defeated the fire giants, she found that she could never fully extinguish their flames, so she took precautions to prevent it from being used against the Erd tree. Some of these precautions are straightforward, but we can surmise that Leyndell itself is a precaution for anyone reaching the summit again. With the defeat of the giants, the era of Erdtree and Marika’s reign really begins.

Godfrey was a fierce warrior, but he and Marika didn’t defeat the giant alone. They were aided by various allies from the giant’s own lands. The first stop on the way up the mountain is the ruins of Samor, a destroyed town inhabited by the Knights of Samor. These people are especially adapted to winter, frost and cold, and we are told that they are the sworn enemies of giants. When Marika appeared to conquer the giants, the Knights of Samor joined the Golden Knights and helped fight their nemesis. Although Zamor was on the winning team, it didn’t seem to be particularly good, but – like between the rest of the lands, their town was in ruins, even though one of their champions received an elaborate tomb. Further south, you’ll find an ancient hero of Samor imprisoned in an eternal prison, though there isn’t much information on how or why it was held there.

Godfrey and Marika also have traitor benefits in the ranks of giants: trolls. Those big purple guys you see all over the continent, sometimes acting as warriors, often dragging caravans behind them, were once allies of giants. When Godfrey and his warriors showed up, they turned into coats, which is why the giants all seemed to be dead, but the trolls were still alive and well everywhere. However, like Zamor, the trolls don’t seem to really stand out for their allegiance to the Golden Order. Sure, they’re still alive, but we usually see them act as little more than menial labor. Probably because they’re big and dumb, but we know of at least one troll, Iji the blacksmith of Caria in Liurnia, who’s smart enough to talk like any other character.Since so many non-humans end up being servants or slaves in the middle ground, we might guess that even betraying the giants isn’t enough real Make trolls favored by the Gold Medal. In fact, the only people who seem to actually respect trolls are the Karians, who allow them to take skilled jobs like blacksmithing and even promote some to knighthood.

Also helping the Golden Order seems to be the Fire Monks, a group of humans from the top of the Giant’s Mountain. I’m not sure if these monks were a group that existed before the war or were created by the Golden Order. It seems to be the latter, as the “oldest” spell of the Fire Monk is that which protects the champion of the Golden Order from the power of the giant’s fire. After the giants are defeated, the fire monks are responsible for guarding the fire of destruction. Over time, however, they seem to have shifted from guarding the flame to worshipping it. Their armor was forged from the giant they helped destroy, and their spells enhanced its power. Even in Lyurnia there are fire monks chasing a man named Adan, the fire thief. You can find Adan in the Malefactor’s Evergaol, defeat him to get the Fallen Fire spell, which shows that the fire monks know that the outer gods of the fire giants still exist, and they keep this secret, either on behalf of Markia or not to let her and the Golden Order know this knowledge.

Fire Giants and Fallen Angels

The ravaged, frozen corpses of the giants are scattered all over the summit, showing the aftermath of their battle with Godfrey and Marika.
