AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3D gaming CPU shines in early review

The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D review has hit the internet well ahead of next week’s launch, giving us our first in-depth look at Team red’s new Zen 3 chip with 3D V-Cache technology. Both TechPowerUp and XanxoGaming have put together Team red as possibly the best gaming CPU around through numerous gaming PC benchmarks, and the chip seems to easily rival the likes of the Intel Core i9-12900KS.

Paired with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, TechPowerUp finds AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Processors that are “on par with Alder Lake” in terms of gaming performance, such as the Intel Core i9-12900KS. Unfortunately, compared to the 12th-gen competition, the red team’s CPU seems to lag behind in Cinebench R23 and other more production-oriented applications.

XanxoGaming’s findings echo these sentiments, stating that “most games will see the Ryzen 7 5800X3D compared to the 12900K,” but it thinks Intel may have an advantage when it comes to using DDR5 gaming RAM. However, as XanxoGaming emphasizes, “DDR5 still has a high premium,” so the new AMD chips may be a more cost-effective option in the short term, especially for those already invested in the AM4 platform.

As we get closer to the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D’s release date, we’ll likely see more reviews from other outlets, but it looks like AMD has started making a great gaming chip. Based on these reviews, we really can’t wait to see what the company does with 3D V-Cache on Zen 4 CPUs.

However, the shadow of Intel Raptor Lake is growing, and we could see 13th Gen Intel Core processors pull the curtain from under AMD when they launch next year. For now, though, you can snag the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D for $450 on April 20.
