The ASRock M8 just arrived at the office and it’s one of the best looking mini-ITX boxes I’ve seen in a long time. This is a high-end barebones PC, which means you’ll need to provide your own processor, graphics card, memory, cooler, and storage, but it uses a PCIe breakout board so you can connect a dual-slot graphics card to the motherboard.

Despite the riser, you can’t really call it an M8 barebones small , and the cost is also high. Prices start from £413, including case, fan, ASRock Z87-M8 mini-ITX motherboard, slim optical drive and 450W SFX power supply.

It may not be in the realm of SilverStone’s Raven RVZ01 in terms of being as small as possible while still allowing for a dual-socket GPU, but it’s still a very small form factor machine compared to a full-tower PC. The M8 has plenty of room for some high-power components, so you’re also less likely to notice any lack of performance compared to a full-tower PC.

In addition to being a beautifully sturdy Steam machine, you can also build a great LAN party machine in it. It may not be particularly light, but the chassis, which was co-designed with BMW DesignWorksUSA, is sturdy and features a series of carrying handles at each corner.
