Baldur’s Gate 3 devs think the Steam deck is ‘great’

With the Steam Deck release date approaching, the excitement surrounding Valve’s portable gaming PC is understandable. Yet while most of us impatiently waited for our pre-orders to arrive, Deck has already impressed game developers around the world. In fact, Baldur’s Gate 3 game director Swen Vincke is a “big fan”, describing the experience of playing some games on it as “amazing”.

These words of enthusiastic support for the Steam deck emerged from our conversation with Vincke during the preview event for Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7. While we shouldn’t expect any native decks to support DnD RPGs anytime soon, with Larian Studios focusing on finishing the game, Vincke was impressed with how the developer’s Divinity: Original Sin game ran.

“D:OS and D:OS 2 work so well on the Deck that I personally recommend playing them on both at the same time. The game runs very well, and when I say that, I mean amazing.” In Speaking of Valve’s handheld, Swen elaborated, “Games like this work really well on the Deck because it’s a big screen and it’s ergonomically good. So, I think it’s going to Well done, and I’m a big fan.”

Larian Studios was apparently so fascinated by the Steam deck that it appeared in the From Hell developer panel. You can check out Vincke’s lyrical take on the portable PC in the livestream below, and try not to cry once some savage gets it.

Before you master the Steam platform, it’s a good idea to check the compatibility of your favorite Steam games to avoid disappointment. While games like Baldur’s Gate 3 haven’t been officially verified by Valve, with the release of Proton 7.0, the company just added 22 new games to the “playable” category.
