Blizzard eats up Tony Hawk remake studio
Vicarious Visions, the Activision studio best known for its recent remakes of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, is now fully incorporated into Blizzard. The process began in January 2021, but Vicarious Visions has now dropped its name and changed its name to Blizzard Albany.
“We have officially merged with Blizzard Entertainment,” official Vicarious Visions Twitter account said. “Our development team will remain in Albany, NY, fully committed to Blizzard games. We invite you to follow us @Blizzard_Ent.” This is the studio’s only tweet since November 2021. Before that, it mostly retweeted promotions for Diablo II: Resurrection.
Blizzard’s jobs page now refers to the studio as Blizzard Albany – as the name suggests, the studio will remain in Albany, New York. Polygon reported in October 2021 that employees were told in a surprise meeting that Vicarious Visions would drop its name, but it wasn’t officially announced until today. According to the same report, there are no layoffs planned.
The studio is expected to provide “long-term support” for Blizzard games. If you want Vicarious Visions to follow up on those great Tony Hawk remakes, well… maybe we’ll get a Lost Vikings remake or something.
