Euro Truck Simulator 2 developers get second chance in Vienna

Euro Truck Simulator 2 turns a full decade into its history this year, and in that time, the developers at SCS Software are getting better at making more realistic renditions of real-world locations. That’s why we want to bring old content up to the standards of modern games, like the Austrian redo. Today, the developers presented their second attempt in Vienna.

“As Austria’s largest city, rebuilding this historic capital and important truck routes was no easy task,” the developers said in the announcement. “Since the release of ETS2 in 2012, time, tools, skills and techniques have changed significantly, allowing our team to create more realistic and detailed games. You will be able to see and drive through some of the detailed sections of Vienna including Wiental and the Danube Canal, which was a challenging addition to our mapping team.”

Related to truckers, you’ll also find a new industrial area south of Vienna “including refineries, warehouses and supermarkets”, all of which should offer some more distinctive pickup and delivery locations.

As you browse the screenshots in the link above, keep in mind that we still don’t have a release date for this rework. Hopefully it’ll start showing up in update 1.44 at least, but we’re not sure yet.

In case you missed it, the developer recently provided a lengthy demo of Heart of Russia gameplay, giving us an early look at the truck game’s Russian DLC.
