Evo 2022 lineup revealed; Street Fighter V, King of Fighters XV in major games
Evo, the world’s largest fighting game tournament, has announced the lineup for Evo 2022, which returns to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas from August 5-7.
Evo announced its lineup for Evo 2022 in a livestream hosted by longtime fighting game commentators Stephen “Sajam” Lyon and Steve “TastySteve” Scott on its Twitch page — a two-year hiatus amid COVID-19 and the controversy surrounding it The first after the sexual abuse allegations against founder Joey Cuellar. Joining the lineup are brief exhibitions of each game featuring two of the top pros in the community.
The full Evo 2022 lineup, in the order the competition was announced, is as follows:
- Street Fighter V: Champion Edition (5th appearance)
- Guilty Gear: Struggle (first appearance)
- Mortal Kombat 11 (2nd appearance)
- Tekken 7 (6th appearance)
- The King of Fighters XV (first appearance)
- Melty Blood: Lumina type (first appearance)
- Dragon Ball FighterZ (3rd appearance)
- Granblue Fantasy Battle (first appearance)
- Skullgirls 2nd Encore (first appearance)
Two notable exceptions to the list are Super Smash Bros. Melee and Ultimate, which held Evo’s record for most entries in a single tournament in 2019 with nearly 3,500 players. Evo Confirmed Smash Bros won’t be part of Evo 2022 When it announced the reveal, Nintendo chose not to work with the organization.
Evo 2022 will be the first event held under Evo’s new ownership, as the organization was acquired by PlayStation in February 2021. The purchase comes after the event’s controversial 2020, as longtime organizer Joey Cuellar was accused of sexual harassment and fired from Evo.
