Forza Horizon 5 update adds PvP progression system and custom matches

Forza Horizon‚Äč‚Äč‚Äč‚Äčn 5 received a major update on March 29th with a slew of improvements to multiplayer, including a new progression system and custom racing options, and naturally added a few metric tons of highly desirable rides facility.

  • Horizon Open has been updated with a new progression system, including badges that can be unlocked through the game
  • Added custom racing cars to Horizon Open, which will allow players to find races for their chosen race discipline and PI rating
  • Fixed some cases during the post-match process that could make players wait longer than necessary

A note outside of the PvP changes says that the focus of Series 6 is on player customization, so many of the tweaks revolve around this side of the game to make it easier for others to see:

  • New collectible paint buckets and miniature T-Rex dinosaurs scattered around the world
  • EventLab events twice a week
  • A seasonal tournament featuring custom photos taken by community members
  • Seasonal PR stunts will now offer super cyclones instead of regular cyclones
  • Lots of new cosmetics and cars

Series 6 also adds a new Horizon story about the “notorious” Drift Club, which has multiple chapters in the game world. This is unlocked by playing the Series 6 Festival Playlist and apparently includes “several miles of drifts, including real-world inspiration from the infamous drift video” – so expect some impressive player clips.

Proper incentives include a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E 1400, a “one-off prototype racing drift car.” As always, there’s a bunch of new cosmetic items and bonuses: vanity items, car horns, icons, and more. You can see them in the full patch notes here.

Forza Horizon‚Äč‚Äč‚Äč‚Äčn 5 is our open-world game of the year for 2021, and it’s a well-deserved gong for such a dense, intricate, and utterly joyous place. As hinted at throughout “Series 6,” Playground has maintained a consistent pace of free updates, adding new gameplay and trinkets: it also teased that the game’s first expansion will be coming soon in this demo announced.
