Here’s What Total Warhammer 3’s Difficulty Settings Really Do

When players start the strategy game’s campaign, there are five Total War: Warhammer III difficulty options to choose from, but the menu does a poor job of explaining the actual differences between these difficulty modes. Now, a frustrated player has data-mined Warhammer III’s files and figured out what changing difficulty really means.

Total War: Warhammer III was only released last month, and it’s clearly already one of the best RTS games on PC, but some players are getting a little irritated by the lack of transparency in the game’s five difficulty options (Easy, Medium, Hard, Very) . Difficult, legendary. Aside from being generally tougher, what’s really changing between these mods?

Reddit user pittaxx was similarly “frustrated” by the small amount of information provided about what changing the difficulty actually did, so data-mined the game files to find most of the statistical differences between these modes. Some are obvious, like Easy and Medium to start with more capital and lower cost, but others are less obvious – like players in battles from 4 (easy) to -8 (very hard/legendary) morale.

With AI modifiers, things like clan growth and attrition vary widely between difficulty, with simple global and local recruiting caps low, and max levels up to +6/+3. There’s a lot to do, so it’s worth checking out — you can even verify them yourself on the updated TWW Stats website.

Total War: Warhammer III has a lot more to offer, including a fix to the alt-tab crash, and the likely first DLC for the Chaos Dwarves-based game is likely to be released soon.
