In 1993 Doom got ray tracing, a real

You’ve played Doom Eternal with ray tracing, you’ve played Quake 2 with ray tracing, now it’s time to take a deeper look at the past and play 1993’s Doom with ray tracing “Original. Yes, it’s April Fool’s Day, but this falls into the best category of April 1st shenanigans – a sudden update that brings a cool, weird, and very real new feature to the classic game.

Modder sultim-t adds real-time path tracing to the original Doom’s PrBoom source port, letting you enjoy the beauty of cutting-edge lighting technology through the game’s first three episodes. You can download the sultim-t modified PrBoom for yourself on GitHub, provided you provide your own copy of the DOOM.wad file, of course.

The result…weird, but undeniably amazing, as you can see in the trailer below. The simple textures and basic geometry of these old levels help advanced lighting to stand out more than when applied to more complex modern games.
