Intel just released its Arc Alchemist desktop graphics card

Intel has finally released its Arc Alchemist desktop GPU, and a limited-edition variant of the card will be available in summer 2022. Announced at the end of the company’s Arc Graphics YouTube event, the add-in card will be accompanied by three new discrete graphics options designed to provide features such as enhanced 1080p gameplay and XeSS upscaling.

Intel has yet to share specs related to its best graphics contender, but a glimpse at its design suggests dual fans are hidden beneath a stylized grille, proudly reaffirming the product’s “limited-edition” status. The company hasn’t spelled out exactly what “limited” means, but it could be a reference to AIC’s subtle grey and dark silver designs.

In terms of output options, the rotated view of the GPU shows one HDMI output and three DisplayPorts. Oddly, the graphics card doesn’t appear to have a visible power connector, but that’s probably something Intel chose to omit from its teaser 3D model.

Intel’s “other thing” is what gaming PC fans have been waiting for, but the presentation also marks the launch of the Arc Alchemist line of discrete graphics cards. The Blue Team’s gaming laptop chips come in five variants, in the Arc 3, Arc 5 and Arc 7 categories, the latter of which will be available in early summer.

At the top end of the scale, the Arc 7 packs 16GB of GDDR6 memory, 32 Xe cores, and 32 ray tracing units, while the entry-level Arc 3 offers 4GB of VRAM and 6 Xe and RT cores. Intel’s wide selection should help it compete with several Nvidia and AMD mobile chips, especially since its flagship model appears to be on par with the discrete GeForce RTX 3080 Ti.

Of course, we’ll have to wait for benchmarks to know if Intel’s graphics lineup will make its competition sweat. Also, while its Arc Alchemist trailer piqued our interest, it’s hard to say if it’s ready to compete with the upcoming RTX 4000-series GPUs, or if it’s designed to compete with the current RTX 3000-series fighters.
