Memory experts Kingston hit us with a one-two combo of brand new SSDs and brand new memory modules they’re calling beasts.

As if the memory market wasn’t manly enough, Kingston is looking to get the sex trade with the latest addition to their Predator line of memory upgrades. It’s all ostensibly dual-channel DDR3, with speeds ranging from 1600MHz to 2400MHz, kit sizes up to 64GB (64 GB! I think it needs to be emphasized), and a range of memory latency tiers. The Beast designation goes to modules that feature a new “extremely aggressive” heatsink design, and the 64GB capacity is the largest in the HyperX performance memory lineup.

Stupid names aside, these should be pretty good sticks, especially on the low-latency end. Kingston can often count on its pricing being as aggressive as its cooler design and naming conventions. Pooh!

Not content with Kingston also released a new generation of SSDNow solid state drive V300. The V-series SSDs are Kingston’s line of value drives—and that’s not to say they’re listless.

Like Kingston, these new drives run the same SF-2281 LSI SandForce controller we’ve seen in countless drives, but this time it’s paired with new 19nm NAND flash modules. Kingston also worked with LSI to customize the drive’s firmware to optimize it for the new memory.

This should help reduce the performance you traditionally get when using SandForce controllers with incompressible data. That’s already compressed files, like images and videos, that we stream often.

You can choose between 60GB, 120GB and 240GB versions of the new SSDNow V300 series in desktop or laptop upgrades. Currently, we can only find them in 60GB and 120GB capacities, priced at £60 and £100 respectively.

We should see review samples soon.
