League of Legends Challenges Coming in Patch 12.9

Developer Riot has announced that League of Legends’ new challenge system will hit live servers in May. The system will appear in patch 12.9, which is currently slated for a May 11th release, and they’ve added a number of achievement-style feats to chase, giving players of MOBA games a way to track achievements beyond wins/loss rates.
Riot started talking about the challenge last year, noting that there’s more to the system than simply ticking off the task list. Each challenge falls into one of several categories, and they can range from iron all the way up to the master level. Some even have Master and Challenger tiers, although only a select number of players in each region can earn these titles at any given time.
Riot has now revealed that the challenge system will be included in patch 12.9, and has also provided some new details about the system. Challenge progress is tracked in your player crystal, and you can show off achievements you’re especially proud of at any time.
The developers also revealed some of the more than 300 challenges and their associated titles that will be available when the system arrives:
- Pop Goes the Poro: Make a Poro explode in Smash Bros. and earn the title “Poroyalty”
- Give them shells, Shirley: Take the turret with the Canyon Herald (aka Shirley)
- Rift icon: Get 100 Summoner Icons and you can become an “Icon”
- Stacked Stacked Stacked: Fully stack Mejai’s Soul Stealer 20 minutes ago
- Superior Support: Complete your support missions faster than your opponents
- Nash Killer: Kill Baron Nash alone and you can become “Baron”
- Aggressive positioning: Get a multi-kill and rock the “Gorgeous” title after flashing at an enemy
- Single carry: Deal 40% more damage to team heroes in Brawl
The challenge system will include nearly 2,700 tokens and more than 100 titles when it launches in May.
