A fun new Lego game was revealed at Future Game Show’s spring showcase that arguably leans more toward actual physical Lego than its most successful video game. Developed by Clockstone Studio, creators of the Bridge Constructor series, LEGO Bricktales, oddly enough, first came to mind as an underrated Xbox 360 exclusive.

I never thought I’d see this day – Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts ‘n Bolts is a semi-visionary game from Rare that probably didn’t get the welcome it deserved. It’s a platformer, but the core hook is an intuitive 3D builder where you can create vehicles and then modify them around the world. I also just described a large part of LEGO Bricktales.

This does seem to be a Kerbal Space Program aimed at slightly younger kids, almost a kid, but the structures are massive puzzles that let players overcome challenges by building things. The game promises that you can “build your own solutions,” and while that might be overkill, the building elements look user-friendly and highly flexible.

Rather than just building a helicopter to fly higher, the puzzles are set in five different LEGO-themed biomes. You’ll also be responsible for “purely aesthetic creations like market stalls and music boxes, as well as functional physics puzzles like construction cranes and gyroplanes,” according to the game’s press release.

Your good deeds will unlock more skills and building options, and you’ll earn different bricks as you explore different building locations.

“Everyone loves LEGO bricks, and we are no exception, so we’re really excited to have the opportunity to make LEGO video games,” said Clockstone’s Tri Do Dinh. “We hope you enjoyed your first look at LEGOs and had a great time digging into the game’s story, sandbox mode, unlockable abilities, and more!”

It strikes me as odd that LEGO has been a huge success in video games, with its collections that basically automate the process and focus on aesthetics, while its more ambitious attempt to virtually replicate the experience of building bricks on a rug has failed. can succeed. LEGO Bricktales leans more towards the physical side of the toy, and obviously takes a significant cue from games that consider building in clever ways: so fingers crossed.

The game will launch sometime this year, here’s the website.
