Little Tina’s Wonderland Review – Skyrim Meets Rick and Morty

Let me tell you about my Spore Watcher build because I’m super excited about it. A mushroom companion accompanies me through Brighthoof and its surrounding towns, ready to poison everyone who stands in front of me. When he does, I can say it looks super cute too, I have a shotgun that looks like a cauldron with a muzzle that I reload by sprinkling fairy dust into it. This works against smaller enemies – your angry fungi, and goblin tinkers with remote bombs.

For larger groups and bosses, I’d have a quill filled with spectral arrows at the ready, and larger targets would take a blast from my frostbite assault rifle, which usually holds the weaker targets in place long enough , so that I can stand up with an axe and make them into crushed ice.I put all my points into status effects and the health and damage of the mushroom buddy, so his poison real It hurts now. Little Tina’s Wonderland is fun.

If you have to pull me out of its world longer, consider this is the second full spinoff of Borderlands, which itself is three games and about 4,000 DLCs. One of the DLCs has established Tiny Tina as a dungeon master in the Vault Hunter DnD game, and has been exploring that premise for hours. It stands to reason that we should be tired of this formula by now, proving that we are not the pure writing and design talents of this development team.

For those of you who haven’t played the Borderlands 2 DLC, a quick jump into its meta-narrative: Tiny Tina brings together a group of vault hunters for a tabletop game called Bunkers & Badasses (there’s the word – it’s definitely a Gearbox games), it’s a lot like DnD, except with more guns and head shakes.

You are a hero created by Valentine, one of the Vault Hunter players. This means that when you sit in front of your PC and look at the game world, you’re looking at a fictional world that a fictional character could only dream of, occupying the player character for the fictional character your player character in Borderlands might have had. role to interact with. If you’re confused, imagine the movie Inception, but Leonardo Di Caprio started thinking about playing DnD’s video game in Cillian Murphy’s dream Role. where are you.

This presents a great opportunity for Gearbox writers to see the entire work as a lesson in improv. Borderlands doesn’t usually prevail for its plot arcs and dramatic moments – mostly because, as a series of co-op games, those moments can always be yelled at by a hilarious sidekick or missed entirely, throwing their Car crashes into your car over and over – but it always feels funny. Here, on a narrative level, it does nothing. Queen Buttstallion, Brighthoof, bards who can’t stop playing lute solos, they’re all just to make you smile.

We should be tired of this formula by now, it’s a testament to the talent of this team, we’re not

Like the original DLC, Tiny Tina is also prone to major modifications mid-session. The whole environment can change right before your eyes in technically impressive and fascinating ways, depending on the fantasies her imagination brings her. This makes the experience quite different from the mainline game, as does the quasi-Skyrim-style quests. Thematically, it’s all excellent.

The class system and accompanying character abilities, companions, spells, and melee attacks work together to create something different from the usual Borderlands shootout. Prototypes have been used before – companion building, sacrificing health for damage, basic shooting bro, infinity – but their implementation here is very interesting.

The only real blunder that I can’t go back to is the Overworld. This is different from other open world games, but instead has a series of minimaps connected by the description of the tabletop game itself. You walk around the set with a head-shaking version of your character, accepting or dodging random encounters as if it were a JRPG, then making it to your next mission location and back into the game world. It felt like a compromise, like a solution to a big problem that the team didn’t have the time or resources to solve. It only really becomes a problem when you find yourself under-leveled on the next proper mission and have to go through some tedious random encounters. Thankfully, these moments don’t come around very often.

It was still firing at screaming enemies in the familiar camp. It’s still watching numbers jump out of their brains. It’s still about salivating in the shower with the color-coded goodies spit out of them when they die. But it’s also a game world that I really like spending time in, somewhere between Skyrim and Rick and Morty, a place to relax, indulge in stacking abilities, catch up with your buddies, and little Tina for You’re ready for some fresh crap to explore.
