New Texas Chainsaw Massacre Trailer Has Influencers in Leatherface’s Crosshairs
A new trailer for the latest installment in the long-running Texas Chainsaw Massacre series has been released. The film — simply titled “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” — hits Netflix on February 18.
“I think the first film really touched a nerve in depicting the cultural clash between the countryside and the city,” Fede Álvarez (Don’t Breathe), the filmmaker who co-conceived the story, told Entertainment Weekly. “Back to the 70s [when the franchise began], hippies represent the youth of the city. This time, they’re more like millennial hipsters from Austin who are very entrepreneurial and dream of getting away from the city and back in the country. They’re trying to gentrify small town America — let’s just say they’re running into some resistance. “
In the new trailer, which you can watch above, the conflict Álvarez describes is on full display — even more so than the one released in December. According to the film’s official synopsis, “Influencers looking to breathe new life into a Texas ghost town encounter Leatherface, a notorious killer wearing a human-skin mask.”
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was produced by Álvarez and directed by David Blue Garcia. It stars Alice Krige (Star Trek: First Contact), Elsie Fisher (8th grade), Nell Hudson (Victoria), William Hope (Alien) and Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U). There’s also a new game adaptation of the series – Texas Chainsaw Massacre – coming soon on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. The game will be an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game based on the classic 1974 horror movie.
