Pokemon Legends: Arceus-everything we know

⌨️

Nintendo Switch’s Pokemon game library continues to grow, and a new game will be launched in the 2022 release calendar, following Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl to be released at the end of 2021. The next game in the series, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, is a new game from the series creator Game Freak’s “Pokemon Adventure”, which seems to be the most complete departure of the series in many years.

Known as the “new approach to the Pokemon video game series,” Pokemon Legend: Arceus is set in the ancient gods, and seems to have drawn some inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Pokemon Company announced this title at the Pokemon Presents event in February 2021, allowing us to see its extensive settings and real-time game elements for the first time.

Although the title is still some time away, this is everything we know about Pokemon Legend: Arceus.

When will “Pokemon: Arceus” go live?

Pokemon Legends: Arceus was launched exclusively for Nintendo Switch on January 28.

We saw Pokemon Legends: Arceus for the first time on the Pokemon Presents broadcast in February 2021. The revealing trailer focuses on the vast environment of the game, showing the rolling hills and vast fields that make up the Shenao region. It also provides a glimpse into the combat system. Unlike previous Pokemon games, Pokemon: Arceus will not switch to a separate battle scene when encountering a wild Pokemon; instead, you can throw a Pokemon ball at the monster in real time to catch it or by putting one of your own pockets The monster was sent to a nearby field to initiate a battle.

In October, the Pokemon Company released a spooky lens-style trailer that seemed to introduce a new Pokemon. The video followed a Pokémon researcher exploring the Hisui area, and they encountered—and were attacked—by a “cute” yellow-eyed Pokémon. It’s hard to know exactly how the trailer was made, but as we approached its release, it did add some mystery to Arceus. Take a look below.

Story details

Unlike Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, Pokemon Legends took place in the distant past, when Shenao was still called Hisui. This era is “before the idea of becoming a Pokemon trainer or building a Pokemon alliance, etc.” As part of your adventure, you will travel in the area and capture Pokemon to create the first Pokedex.

Unlike choosing between Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup at the beginning of the adventure, Pokemon Legends has a completely different starting lineup: Rowlet, Cyndaquil and Oshawott. According to the Pokemon Company, these Pokemon were brought to Hisui by “a certain professor encountered while traveling in various regions”. There is a subtle connection between these three starters, in line with the feudal theme that runs through the entire game and its story.

Playing an important role in the story is the mythical Pokemon Arceus. In the legend of Pokemon, it is said that Arceus “shaped everything in this world”, making it a Pokemon equivalent to the god of creation. It is not clear how Arceus fits into the game, but the Pokemon Company jokingly claims that it “holds the key to this story.”

Game details

According to Pokemon Company, Pokemon Legends: Arceus “represents a new approach to the Pokemon video game series”, combining the series’ traditional RPG mechanics with some real-time elements to create a new action RPG experience. The adventure unfolds in a vast, open environment, which evokes the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in its scope and visual style.

Like the wilderness areas in “Pokemon Sword and Shield”, in “Pokemon: Arceus”, you can see wild Pokemon roaming in the environment. You can catch these monsters by observing and throwing poke balls in real time. You can also battle wild Pokemon by manually calling one of your own buddies Pokemon. Once your Pokemon enters the battlefield, you can choose from four attacks, just like previous Pokemon games.

Despite the greater range and settings, the Pokemon Company confirmed that the game is no A completely open world. On the contrary, it sounds more similar to the Monster Hunter series. Players will start with Jubilife Village, the home base of the game, where they can accept tasks and then take them to a specific but more open part of the game world.

“In “Pokemon Legends: Arceus”, Jubilee Village will serve as a base for investigation missions,” the Pokemon Company said in a statement to Kotaku. “After receiving a task or request and preparing for the next hike, the player will set off from the village to study the various open areas in the Hisui area. After completing the investigation, the player needs to return again to prepare for their next task. We look forward to it. Share more information about exploring the Hisui area soon.”

It sounds like you will spend a lot of time in Jubilife Village, returning there between tasks to take care of your Pokemon, shopping and other business. You can craft items in the village, customize your trainer, take photos with your monsters, and organize your Pokemon in different ranches. These are low-tech versions of the Pokemon storage system in the game.

Although many of the game details are still a bit thin, we already know some of the characters you will meet in Pokemon Legends: Arceus. These include Cyrus, the leader of the seemingly evil Galaxy team, and the leaders of some stadiums. Check out the trailer below.

Hisui also includes two hostile clans that you will interact with as you explore the area. Both the diamond tribe and the pearl tribe seem to be taking care of the Pokemon in the area, but they have different views on how to do this and the gods. From the sound of things, the members of each clan include Pokemon “admins”, who will essentially act as the leaders of the gym for you to accept. In addition to these two clans, there is the Ginkgo Guild, a group of traveling merchants who are pioneers in the Pokemon market, and you can usually find them in the main Pokemon series of games. You will frequently visit merchants to purchase items such as berries and handicraft materials.
