Rainbow Six Extraction: Everything we know about Ubisoft’s Montreal tactical shooter

🖥️

Rainbow Six Extraction is a squad-based online tactical shooter, a spinoff of Rainbow Six: Siege. The extraction sees Siege’s operators being called upon to deal with a parasite-like alien threat called the Archaeans. Originally announced as Rainbow Six Quarantine at E3 2019, the game was renamed and delayed a few times, but it’s finally out.

While Ubisoft Montreal leads both Siege and Extraction, each game has a different team behind it. Additionally, Rainbow Six Extraction creative director Patrik Methé told Esports.com.tnthat despite their similarities, Ubisoft Montreal isn’t worried that Siege and Extraction will cannibalize each other’s audiences.

In GameSpot’s Rainbow Six Extraction review, Jordan Ramée wrote: “I had a great time at Extraction, working with my teammates so we could finish at a steady pace without completely losing sight of the goal. Challenges. This communication helps us well when the time comes to decide whether to push or pull, reinforces the engaging hooks based on teamwork that keeps me in the hack again and again. It will reward you and your team The ability to adapt to provide an engaging game loop.”

what we know

Rainbow Six Extraction is a cooperative shooter featuring many of the agents originally seen in Rainbow Six Siege. The point here, though, is not to fight another team in PvP, but to infiltrate the Primordial-infested warzone, hoping to gather information and samples about the threat and run away with it; hence the name.

Weapons and gadgets have been tweaked to be more useful in larger PvE levels, and your goal in each mission is to use stealth and team tactics to eliminate enemy ancient creatures, avoid being overwhelmed, and find and complete objectives. These objectives are randomized on each playthrough of each map, and the map itself switches between sessions – so while you’ll see certain facilities and locations more than once, the way you approach them and your What must be done may change.

Each map is divided into individual invasions, each consisting of three “sub-areas”. The areas are connected by airlocks, so once you’ve completed the objectives of the first area, you can choose to move on to the next area, where the challenges and rewards will increase, or disband your team. You can withdraw at any time during the mission to cut losses, but the further you go, the more you gain in terms of overall character development and experience points. You must extract your characters from the invasion to keep using them, and your operators keep the damage they take. If your operators are forgotten or fall, they will be captured by aliens and you will need to rescue them when you do another invasion.

The enemies and targets you will face are varied. Humans infected with alien parasites come in all shapes and sizes, including slow, goofy melee fighters, ranged attackers shooting spikes, explosive enemies trying to get close to you and blow up, and powerful floating creatures with seemingly remote powers . There are also lairs on the map that can create more ancient enemies if triggered when you break stealth. So moving carefully, keeping the element of surprise and paying attention to your surroundings are vital to sustaining life, as well as cleverly using your operator’s specific abilities.

Not all of Siege’s 60+ operators made the jump to retreat — in fact, most didn’t. Ubisoft Montreal will bring more than 18 PvE-friendly players, but more operators are scheduled to arrive after launch.

trailer

Ubisoft released a ton Trailer for Rainbow Six Extraction. To keep this article from getting too long, we only list the ones we think are most relevant. That said, if you’d like to see more extractions, Ubisoft has an individual breakdown of the operator’s abilities on its YouTube channel.

After the name has been leaked, Ubisoft officially revealed the new name of Extraction with a trailer. Extract was formerly known as Quarantine — a name that may have sounded a lot better in 2019 before the global quarantine caused by COVID in 2020.

Along with the announcement of the new name, Ubisoft has released a new trailer for the movie. The trailer teases the story for the upcoming game and shows the importance of the need to extract MIA operators.

Over the next few months, Ubisoft will continue to release new gameplay trailers for Extraction, each of which will further detail aspects of the online shooter and how it differs from Siege. All of these details are then rounded up in the gameplay overview trailer.
