Return to Monkey Island brings back classic adventure game locations

Return to Monkey Island takes us back to where the series started: Dogfight Island. The developers behind the revival of the classic adventure game have provided more details and screenshots that confirm the answers to some lingering questions after the adventure game’s surprise reveal earlier this month.
Adventure gamers asked Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert and writer Dave Grossman, who are returning for a co-op new game, if Melee Island is making a comeback, based on the context of the official website. “Excellent detective work,” Grossman said. And, in fact, Melee Island’s high street is featured in one of the new screenshots. (Gilbert added that they may also be “wedged” into the monkey island itself.)
Dominic Armato has previously been confirmed to be returning as Guybrush Threepwood, and it’s true that Danny Delk will be silent in the trailer. The voice that Murray brings to life. We’ll also have Alexandra Boyd return to voice Elaine, as she did in The Curse of Monkey Island and The Story of Monkey Island. Earl Boen, the original voice of LeChuck, has retired, but Gilbert said Boen told the team to “recast the characters, and I totally wish you guys did.”
While Return to Monkey Island will be a direct sequel to Monkey Island 2, there are no plans to split the timeline. “We’re very purposefully not doing anything to invalidate any canon that happens in those games,” Gilbert said. “We’re not saying these things didn’t happen, we wouldn’t speak to them at all. We embraced a lot of what we liked in those games.”
