Sonic Origins with help from the Sonic Mania team
The Sonic Origins developers were probably the best thing Sega made when it came to choosing a studio to remaster some of the best platformers on PC, as it was developed by Headcannon (also known as the Sonic Mania team).
Earlier today, Sega announced that the long-developing Sonic Origins — a remastered collection of the Mega Drive/Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog games — will be released this summer, but there are some issues with the quality. Some past ports of these games have been downright disasters, although games like Christian Whitehead and Headcannon have been praised for giving Sonic some nice re-releases.
After developing Sonic Mania, the team appears to have abandoned the franchise, and some of them are working on a new 3D platformer. However, the team at Headcannon has confirmed that they are working on Sonic Origins. The developers remastered Sonic 3 & Knuckles in particular, and assisted in the production of other games in the series – Sonic 1, Sonic 2 and Sonic CD.
At the very least, this should guarantee a good remastered port of Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Hey! Remember how many times I said “if Sega wanted me to remake Sonic 3 (& Knuckles) I would do it”?Well, need this game to complete their plan #SonicOrigins For the remake, Sega asked me to take on this huge task and I recruited some of my Headcannon buddies to help!

Of course, that won’t appease fans who are uneasy about the puzzling array of pre-order bonuses, game options, and microtransactions that Sonic Origins seems to be saddled with — including the release menu animations and extra music tracks as separate DLC, removed from the Anniversary mode rings – plus, locks widescreen to this mode – and makes its Digital Deluxe Edition not include all game content.
Sonic Origins will be released on Steam and the Epic Games Store in June.
