STALKER 2 devs change game name to Ukrainian spelling

It appears that STALKER 2, previously subtitled “Heart of Chernobyl”, will now be called STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl, using the Ukrainian spelling of the game’s main setting. While the developer has not officially announced the title change, all references to the location on the game’s Steam page have now been updated (via ResetEra) to spell “Chornobyl”. (The Xbox page is currently unchanged.)

The long-term English transliterations of many Ukrainian place names originate from Russian, not Ukrainian. In 2018, Ukraine’s foreign ministry launched a campaign called KyivNotKiev to encourage international media to use Ukrainian-derived spellings in places like Kyiv.

STALKER 2 developer GSC Game World is based in Ukraine, and the studio has been using its social media channels Fans are asked to support Ukraine during the Russian invasion. GSC Game World directs fans to special accounts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or the international charitable foundation Come Back Alive.

For other ways to support Ukraine, you can donate to UNICEF, Médecins Sans Frontières and Children’s Voices through these links.
