Suicide Squad: Killing the Justice League Reportedly Delayed to 2023
Suicide Squad: Killing the Justice League, the game where Suicide Squad tried to kill the Justice League, may not be as successful as expected this year. According to Bloomberg, “people familiar with its development” said the game has been delayed until sometime in 2023.
Developed by Rocksteady Studios, Suicide Squad will be an open-world game set in Superman’s hometown of Metropolis, whose gameplay blends the fighting of the studio’s Batman Arkham game with “powerful, awesome gunfights,” as Says Rocksteady creative director Sefton Hill. We know very little about the story, other than that it pits the squad “on a collision course with invading alien forces and DC superheroes who are now focused on destroying the city they once swore to protect.”
The story aspect is a bit confusing as publisher Warner Bros is working on another superhero fighting game, Gotham Knights, which, as the title suggests, is actually a Batman game, even though Batman isn’t actually in it . But the game is completely separate from Rocksteady’s Arkham series, which were all about Batman, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League actually follows the story of 2015’s Arkham Knight, making it the next story in the series, while Not Gotham Knights. Confusing, like I said.
Warner has yet to announce the delay, but assuming the reports are legitimate, Gotham Knights could be the reason. It was originally set to come out in 2021, but was pushed back to 2022 last March, so it makes sense that Warner might not want to drop two similarly-themed games so close.
The Bloomberg report noted that WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar also teased a “series of highly anticipated games” coming in 2022, including Hogwarts Legacy and Gotham Knights. Logo, but especially no Suicide Squad.
That mission, and this strategy, continued with a sense of urgency in 22: launching HBO Max in more countries this quarter and the rest of the year, launching CNN+, offering a host of highly anticipated games. 10/x pic.twitter.com/CY5jYAhxU5January 26, 2022
I’ve contacted Warner about the delay and will update if I hear back.
