This Crusader Kings 3 mod moves the action to feudal Japan

While Crusader Kings III’s world map does not (yet) include East Asia, you can still visit through the centuries. Shogunate is a fully converted mod for a medieval grand strategy game that focuses on Japan’s Sengoku period, the feudal era from 1467 to 1615.

Based on the Nova Monumenta Iaponiae Historica mod for Crusader Kings II, the Shogunate operates according to many different rules from the feudal period of the base game. It’s based on historical records, including many Sengoku era daimyo and their families, and you can play any landing role in the game. There are a dizzying number of potential starting points, but if none of them appeal to you, you can create your own Sengoku period daimyo and set out on your own shogunate path.

Once you decide to build a new shogunate, the whole of Japan becomes your de jure territory, giving you a casus belli against anyone. However, other characters are unlikely to heed your call to war – they need at least 50 positive opinion of you to join a defensive war, and if you want them to join you, they need +75 opinion of you for any offensive behavior .

The shogunate also added special buildings such as mines, trade ports, and gunsmiths that would increase income and military power for their supreme lords. Historical events will unfold to unlock cannon and arquebus innovations as you gain levels and climb to the top of the court.

The mod is compatible with the new Royal Court DLC, and the Sengoku Daimyo even has a unique Throne Room style that includes lots of additional period artwork.

You can find Shogunate on the Steam Workshop. Installation is as easy as clicking subscribe – the next time you launch a new Crusader Kings III game, it will be a shogunate battle.
