Valheim patch makes trolls more wobbly when hit

Thanks to the latest patch for the lo-fi survival game, Valheim’s trolls should pay more attention when you fight them. The latest Valheim patch includes tweaks to troll behavior so that they are properly staggered when hit. Patch 0.208.1 also makes all sorts of nice quality of life changes, which should also make retrieving lost gear less frustrating.

Developer Iron Gate says it has taken the step of “reminding trolls that they should actually stagger” when adventurers hit trolls with heavy objects. “Not that fun for them, but fun for you!” the studio reassuringly points out. This should at least make trolls more manageable – they don’t get rid of thumps very often, anyway.

Another nice fix in this update is a change to how your inventory is handled when you take back a tombstone after being unceremoniously killed (possibly by a troll). The latest patch lets you restore inventory items that will automatically stack with whatever you’re currently carrying, without requiring a free slot for each picked up item.

Other than that, the rest of the notes are all about small, impactful changes that fix bugs or simplify the user experience — nothing big new in this update, but Iron Gate says it’s more about “making you a smoother gaming experience.”

For example, if you’re playing on a gamepad, you’ll no longer automatically buy twice from the trader, and there are some new keyboard and gamepad tips to help you navigate the inventory screen.

We hope to see Valheim’s Mistlands update by the end of the year, but you can check the Valheim roadmap for a timeline update for the next major content patch.
