We are hiring! PCGamesN is looking for a guide editor


When you close your eyes, can you hear a thousand people typing, eagerly looking for answers? Lost in the depths of a dungeon, indignant with their overwhelming load and unable to get the multiplayer to work – they’re calling for help and we’re looking for a guide editor to lead the rescue team.

This is a full-time position, either locally in Bath (you will attend our beautifully newly renovated offices at least two days a week) or telecommuting from the UK with occasional business travel. You’ll manage the PCGamesN guide team, take care of the team of associate guide editors and guide writers, and you’ll be responsible for developing and executing our guide strategy, maintaining the health of our existing guide team, and writing, editing, and updating them.

You should have a solid understanding of SEO and keep an eye on the ever-changing search landscape, and you need to have a broad understanding of the biggest games of the moment and pay close attention to find the most promising clues from the community and gameplay.

We are looking for an experienced tour guide expert with strong organizational skills, keen eye for detail and love of research, as well as flexible and creative thinking, keen writing skills and a passion for a variety of games.

You’ll manage the guides department within PCGamesN, managing deputy guide editors and a team of guide authors. You’ll identify, plan, and produce evergreen and coaching content for your target game, keep an eye on its rankings, update them as needed for in-game events and new content, and maintain industry-leading SEO standards across an ever-expanding portfolio of search-oriented features .


  • Manage the tour guide team to ensure all members play their part as much as possible and stay happy and motivated
  • Maintain and increase awareness of SEO best practices and apply them to the team’s work to increase our search traffic
  • Writing and updating guidelines
  • Track the performance of our guides and organize their updates as needed
  • Keep up to date with the latest news and trends in online publishing, especially SEO
  • Use monitoring and reporting tools (e.g. Google Trends, SE Ranking) to identify potential wins and mitigate ranking losses
  • Opportunity to monitor in-game challenges, patch updates and any other regular guide content
  • Use Google, Reddit, and other gaming communities to identify and suggest queries that could lead to new guides and other article types
  • Attend occasional press conferences, write previews and reviews, and pitch column ideas to associate and editor-in-chief
  • Keep our internal reporting and workflow tools (e.g. Asana, Google Calendar) organized and up to date
  • Other tasks requested by the Associate Editor, Editor-in-Chief, or Director of Publications

You will have/be:

  • A practical and theoretical understanding of SEO and best practices for publishing search-targeted content
  • Experience planning and writing video game guides and evergreen content
  • Extensive experience working for well-known online gaming brands above entry level
  • Extensive experience leading teams, as well as excellent workforce management skills
  • High editorial standards, excellent organizational skills, and a keen eye for detail
  • It would be an advantage to have some connections between publishers, developers and PR in the game industry
  • Be able to show proof of entitlement to work in the UK at the start of employment
