Zombie Project and God of War become weekly bestsellers on Steam

It’s a new week, which means that last week’s (as of January 16) Steam Bestsellers list has entered. While you’d expect to see some big names in there, there have also been a few indie hits that have made it into the platform’s top 10, including The Indie Stone’s zombie survival game Project Zomboid.

Launched back in November 2013 on Steam Early Access – it’s been around ever since, receiving numerous updates over the years and the experience evolving – Project Zomboid sees you trying to get a post-apocalyptic, zombie-like setting in Kentucky Survive haunted areas. Featuring a “hardcore RPG” skill set, a massive map, and a “mass-customizable” sandbox, the game is played from an isometric perspective. “alone or in [multiplayer]: You loot, build, craft, fight, farm, and fish in your struggle to survive”, as its Steam page describes it.

The zombie game has seen real interest lately, and the game itself has seen a lot of exciting new content, with December’s Build 41 bringing so much new content that the developers say it “feels more like a sequel than a patch update” ”. Build 42 is also improving endgame. Project Zomboid has hit a new peak player count of around 65,000 players, according to the Steam Charts, and it’s now No. 7 on Steam’s latest weekly bestseller list. This comes after a strong top 10 for the past few weeks, so its recent performance has been impressive.

Elsewhere, Sony’s just-launched 2018 PC version of God of War has reached #1 on Steam’s weekly bestseller list. Following the platform’s impressive arrival, the platform became the highest-rated and most-played Sony game on Steam shortly after its release.

In our God of War PC review, Ian gave the game a 9 out of 10, calling it “big, rude, and surprisingly poignant” and “in good shape on PC”, urging fans not to “give up” This chance to play console classics”. With many other reviews expressing similar sentiments, it’s no surprise that it went straight to the top of the Steam bestseller list this week.

Other games that made the top 10 on Steam last week include the all-new Monster Hunter Rise for PC, Elden Ring (naturally), and the 2021 Game Awards GOTY It Takes Two. For the full list, go to SteamDB via this link.
