Stardew Valley’s biggest mod released a new release this week, with a trailer that “marks the end of my more than three years of life,” its creators say. “My original vision for this mod is done,” FlashShifter said of version 1.14, but he’s not done yet. “I’ll start working on SVE 2.0 soon, using all the skills I’ve learned since starting this project.”

The first time I played Stardew Valley Expanded was in 2020, and even then it felt like a proper expansion. It’s grown and grown since then, and now has another farm map, more characters, and a new location in Pelican Town. One of the things I love about Stardew Valley Expanded is its natural fit with the base game – from map changes to new characters to the new JojaMart storyline. SVE’s new 1.14 trailer shows just how real this is still.

SVE has been so well integrated into the base game that it’s hard to tell where Stardew ends and Expanded begins. Morris, the local JojaMart manager, has his own storyline and house. Claire, a previously unknown Joja cashier, becomes a marriage candidate with a story of her own. It adds new farms owned by other characters with their own stories, so you’re no longer the only farmer in town.

As for what’s new in SVE 1.14, FlashShifter says a new area called Highlands has been added. It also turned SVE’s adventure guild character Lance into a marriage candidate. In addition to what SVE has added in its previous version, there are tons of other changes – new crops, fish, decorations, and more.

“One of the things I’m most excited about is actually a character event,” FlashShifter told me — the event that happens when the player’s relationship with the SVE-added character Sophia reaches level 14. “It took me a whole month to develop it. I built a city specifically for it, and it brings players to Zuzu City Comic Con. Attending conferences and cosplaying are my favorite hobbies in the world, and I want to give The player experience.”

Still, he plans to expand Stardew further. FlashShifter said he was inspired by The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and wanted the game loop in SVE 2.0 to include solving dungeons, defeating bosses, and acquiring new abilities and gear.

“I want to use all the skills I’ve learned over the past three years to build a new city called Castle Village. It’s located in Galdora, a remote magical region full of unknowns, beauty and danger,” FlashShifter said, while preserving the star The social element of Dew Valley.

It sounds like FlashShifter’s ambitions are leaning into the realm of total overhauls, similar to Skyrim mods like Enderal or the original Forgotten Cities mod. Having played an earlier version of SVE and now looking forward to trying 1.14, I’d love to see what he comes up with.

In the meantime, if you’ve grown quite a few Stardew farms, then you really should start your next farm with the full version of Stardew Valley Expanded. “There’s a magic to this game, and I want to give players that magic again with my mods,” FlashShifter said. “I’m happy to say it’s finally in a state that I’m happy with.” You can find Stardew Valley Expanded on Nexus Mods.
