Tell us your scariest PC building horror stories

As Halloween approaches, it’s officially the season of cold and excitement. What’s more chilling than the sound of rejecting a new version of POST or the popping circuit of a power supply? What’s scarier than seeing a pin-bend bug on a brand new CPU?
To celebrate Halloween, the PC Gamer Forums community is looking for your scariest PC build stories. We want to hear all the gross, scary, embarrassing details of how you (almost) ruined your computer — whether it’s your overly generous use of thermal paste, or you’ve ever pushed your RAM back. No story is too scary (or too shameful). After all, the best way to get over your fears is to laugh at them, right?

Bonus points for pictures. You can also tell your story in the comments below. In a few weeks, we’ll gather our favorites into a new article and share them with you all.
That’s not the only way you can join in some weird fun, though. We’re also hosting two separate competitions on the forum, each rewarding a nice PC Gamer coffee mug or tote bag. The first is to see who can build the best Halloween-themed creation in any building game (like Minecraft or Fortnite), while the second is a baking contest where you have to show us your best Halloween recipes.
