Apex Legends character releases may slow down in the future

Since launching Apex Legends three years ago, Respawn Entertainment has been releasing a new character for its hit Battle Royale like clockwork at the start of each new season (roughly every three months). But it appears that Apex Legends senior character designer Devan McGuire said the team is aware of the potential issues with “Legend saturation” and may slow down the release of new characters in the future.

In an interview with Dexerto, McGuire talked about the potential balance issues that could result from adding too many legendaries too early. Given that some of the older Legendaries have received numerous ability tweaks since the game’s launch in 2019, it’s no surprise that things might slow down in the future.

McGuire explained that while Apex Legends is more about movement and firearms than legendary abilities, those abilities can still throw the game off balance because as each season goes by, creating “unique, not overly powerful or niche abilities” “The role becomes more difficult. McGuire explained that the game could reach a “breaking point” where adding a new Legendary character each season could be detrimental to the game itself, saying, “Whether this model continues is an ongoing discussion. , probably won’t change, but we don’t want to saturate the pool [of legends]. “

You can start to see what he’s saying, with characters like Ash and Newcastle playing similar roles to legends like Wraith and Gibraltar.

Gameplay isn’t the only problem – the current Legendary lineup now consists of up to 20 characters (all of them with complex backstories and narrative connections to each other) – Respawn seems to have a hard time keeping up with the many offshoots of Apex heroes story. Many legends have lingering story threads that are not months old, and continuing to add legends every three months could further exacerbate the problem.

For now, however, Respawn says there are no immediate plans to change the Legendary release schedule, meaning players may still have new characters to look forward to in Season 14. If the giant Apex Legends leak is any indication, Season 14 could introduce Vantage, a Legendary character whose abilities boost her sniper rifle and ranged combat skills. But before that, we still have Season 13 to enjoy, which adds a new legendary Newcastle, changes to qualifying, and adds the Beast Down POI and IMC Armory to Storm Point.
