Boba Fett’s New ILM Technology "billboard" In Times Square is the next level illusion

Industrial Light & Magic, the visual effects company founded by George Lucas in 1975, has unveiled some impressive new technology on a Times Square “billboard” featuring Boba Fett in mid-Manhattan The city loomed – it looked like he was really there. Might have to see IRL to be fully appreciated, but in a clip shared via the official Boba Fett Twitter account, it’s still pretty cool.
In another video on LG Display’s YouTube channel, it explains how the “billboard” is made, wrapping around the corner of a building and technically flat — but still believing what you’re seeing is a fully realized 3D space lower vantage point. As ILM’s VFX Supervisor Eric Leven said, “When you look at it, you feel Boba Fett disappear from the screen.” Check it out below.
In addition to advertising, the Star Wars franchise has a lot going on. Recently, an animated anthology called Legends of the Jedi was just released. According to the panel description for the upcoming Star Wars Celebration event, all we know is that it’s coming. It could be a direct successor to Star Wars: Illusions, or it could be something more traditional, designed to be a model for the modern Star Wars universe, like novels like Aftermath and Resistance Reborn.
The next blockbuster in the series will be Obi-Wan Kenobi, which will premiere on Disney+ on May 25. In a recent interview, actors Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor discussed how to build a fighting series for the show and build their historical characters by watching almost every official release.
