After Season 3 dried up, Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Zombies mode finally has a new map for Season 4: Mercenaries of Fortune. Treyarch has released more details about the upcoming update, so here’s everything players need to know about the return of the classic Shi No Numa map.

Vanguard Zombies has been grappling with the lack of content and replayability in Treyarch’s new approach to objective-style maps, so the developers dropped the new formula for a more traditional Zombies survival experience. Originally a map from Call of Duty: World at War, an “enhanced” version of Shi No Numa is returning, bringing classic turn-based zombies to Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Treyarch announced that this enhanced version of Shi No Numa will be the full map, but it’s returning with a new area to explore and discover Easter eggs. Returning to Shi No Numa is the classic Wunderwaffe DG-2 Wonder Weapon that originally appeared on the map, but added a quest for players to unlock.

Shi No Numa also gets a new storyline quest tied to Treyarch’s ongoing Dark Aether narrative. This major Easter egg is described as a “multi-step quest that culminates in a devastating battle,” and complete completion of the quest will reward the player with a business card.

This version of Shi No Numa will include the map’s traditional lashers and electronic traps, but players will still have access to Vanguard features such as the Altar of Covenant and Book of Rites. Treyarch recently More details on Shi No Numa posted on Twitterconfirm that a Heart of Sacrifice item is awarded every three surviving rounds, and that the Covenant Altar inventory is also refreshed every three rounds.

Originally, Vanguard Zombies removed the mode’s classic “Wall Buy” feature of buying weapons from walls, but that feature is returning with Shi No Numa. However, unlike the simplified features in the original map, Wall Buys returns to Zombies with an evolving weapon option. Wall Buys will have the opportunity to increase their Pack-A-Punch rank with each round starting with round 6 and work their way up to rank 3 in later rounds. This change is similar to Black Ops Cold War’s dynamic Wall Buy upgrade, which has the potential to upgrade the weapon rarity of the Wall Gun.

Additionally, Treyarch is changing Vanguard’s overpriced Pack-a-Punch upgrade for Shi No Numa. The cost of the Level 1 Pack-A-Punch upgrade has been reduced from 7,500 to 5,000 Essence points, which brings the price back to the original cost of the zombie’s first weapon upgrade.

Later in Vanguard’s annual life cycle, we’re not sure how many traditional maps we’ll see added to the game, but hopefully the Shi No Numa changes will bring the fun and replayability of zombie mode back.

The Call of Duty Season 4: Mercenaries of Fortune update will arrive on June 22nd. In addition to the main zombie content, Vanguard will get two multiplayer maps, while Warzone will get a new close-range revival map.
