Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies – Shi No Numa Tips

⌨️

Call of Duty Season 4: Mercenaries of Fortune is now live, introducing traditional turn-based zombie gameplay to Vanguard and adding an “enhanced” Shi No Numa map. This is a map that was originally introduced in 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War, and whether you’re an OG Zombies fan or new to Vanguard, there are a few features and changes you’ll want to know about before jumping in on your Shi No Numa first game.

The turn-based zombie survival experience is largely traditional for this version of Shi No Numa, but the map does include vanguard-style perks, as well as many of the game’s extras. Below we break down all the changes you can find in Vanguard’s Shi No Numa.

Starting with the important part, let’s talk about the zombie perk system. Vanguard perks don’t look or perform like traditional perk vending machines commonly found in Treyarch’s Zombies mode. In keeping with Vanguard’s mystical theme, this version of Zombies uses a Gothic fountain that you can interact with to gain one of the mode’s new perks.

It’s important to grab each perk as soon as you find it, because you don’t have to pay for the base perk in Vanguard Zombies. There’s also no limit to the number of perks you can have in Vanguard, so enjoy. Here’s our complete guide to the Shi No Numa perk fountains, including a breakdown of how each perk works and where it sits on the map.

Covenant Altar

Covenant Altar of Shi No Numa

For Shi No Numa, the Covenant Altar is located on the path leading from Main Hut to the Comm Room building. This is a large skull altar with horns.

Vanguard’s Altar of Covenant feature allows you to gain powerful buffs to equip as you progress through higher turns. Covenant works a little differently on Shi No Numa than it does on Vanguard’s objective style map. You’ll earn a Heart of Sacrifice item for every three rounds you complete on Shi No Numa, and a heart for every objective round you complete on objective-based maps.

These Hearts of Sacrifice can be brought to the Covenant Altar, where they can be exchanged for one of three random buffs. The buff selection on the Altar of the Covenant will change every three rounds, so you can always switch or wait for a better buff.

Death Strike is a great covenant choice. Headshots are important, especially in higher rounds, and Death Blow is a covenant that will reward you for critical kills by returning bullets to your clip. Revivers are also a good Covenant option when teaming up in co-op, as this buff allows you to revive allies faster.

Book of Ritual

Shi No Numa’s Book of Ritual

Shi No Numa’s Book of Ritual is located on the path leading from the main hut to the fishing hut. You’ll see it whenever you pass under the lasher. This looks like a large pedestal, with a set of hands holding a glowing book.

The Book of Ritual also requires the Heart of Sacrifice item, a feature that allows you to upgrade your loaded gear artifact with additional abilities, and works similar to the ability upgrade tiers in Black Ops Cold War. The only difference is that these are not permanent skill level unlocks like the Black Ops Cold War version. These upgrades must be made for every game. New mining point POI

If you’re familiar with the original Shi No Numa, you might notice a whole new area to explore. Treyarch includes the new Dig Site location, which the developers describe as an open space and a great place to take on large zombie hordes. The dig site is located due north of the main hut and can only be accessed from the communication room and storage room path. This cannot be reached directly from your starting point at Main Hut.

Wall Buys Returns, Plus Pack-a-Punch Changes

Pack-a-Punch machine at Dig Site

Vanguard’s objective maps don’t have Zombies’ classic Wall Buy feature, which lets you buy weapons from various walls around the map. However, the feature does return with Shi No Numa, but this time it works differently. Unlike the simplified Wall Buys in the original map, weapons now have a chance to evolve over time. Beginning with round 6 of Shi No Numa, Wall Buys will have the opportunity to increase their Pack-A-Punch rank each round and work their way up to rank 3 in later rounds. This change is similar to Black Ops Cold War’s “Dynamic Wall Buy” upgrade, with the potential to upgrade weapon rarity.

In addition to the ever-growing Wall Buys, Pack-a-Punch machines can also be used to upgrade your weapons. Shi No Numa’s Pack-a-Punch machines are located at the new Dig Site location. Treyarch announced changes to Vanguard’s overpriced Pack-a-Punch upgrade for Shi No Numa. The cost of the Tier 1 Pack-A-Punch upgrade has been reduced from 7,500 to 5,000 Essence points, which reduces the price to the original cost of the zombie’s first weapon upgrade.

Wunderwaffe is back, but waiting to use the mystery box

The Wunderwaffe DG-2 Wonder Weapon, which originally appeared in Shi No Numa, is back with an enhanced map. There is a quest in the game that allows you to craft weapons, which can also be obtained through mystery boxes. Don’t try to get the Wunderwaffe DG-2 out of the box too soon, though. Treyarch revealed in the Season 4 patch notes that this amazing weapon won’t be in the Mystery Box until you reach Round 10.

Shi No Numa continues Treyarch’s Dark Aether narrative, so if you want to experience the full story of Vanguard Zombies, we have Der Anfang’s Narrative Prologue Guide and Terra Maledicta’s Main Storyline Easter Egg Guide.
