As part of its evolving design, Destiny 2’s arsenal is undergoing some changes. Weapons will be tweaked again in Season 17, with a focus on making automatic and pulse rifles more competitive at specific ranges, polishing machine guns, and making some extreme changes to rocket launchers.

For automatic and pulse rifles, Bungie explained in its latest TWAB update that some minor tweaks will make these weapons perform better at medium to long ranges compared to hand cannons, and that they will outlast standard zoom submachine guns . The damage falloff distance has been slightly increased, and players who prefer pulse rifles should find themselves needing less critical hits against opponents in PvP.

For SMG, some bigger changes are coming. The zoom difference between these weapons has been reduced, and the damage falloff distance has been increased to make SMGs more competitive in PvP. With these changes, the inaccessible SMG with the highest perk or trait in Lucky RNG drops – Multimach – will have less competition with the Auto Rifle, and it will no longer directly outperform all other SMGs in PvP.

With the upcoming changes to aerial combat, Bungie is also fine-tuning the precision hand cannon with the Icarus Grip perk. For example, once these changes start, expect a huge shift from a huge reduction in onboard accuracy penalty to +25 onboard efficiency stats.

In the heavy weapons department, machine guns get additional buffs when dealing with enemies. Bungie doesn’t want these weapons to upend boss fights, but the general idea is that the machine guns, when used, will annihilate smaller enemies. This buff can be used by Xenophage and Grand Overture Machine Guns, dealing 40% damage to PvE enemies and 20% damage to bosses.

Small changes to the sword include increasing the charge rate stat for Scar of Sora from 20 to 50, and is addressing some inconsistencies in the stat display between different swords.

Finally, the rocket launcher subfamily will feel even more unique. A significant trade-off of built-in tracking for precision and the greater good of other brands is being introduced. Precision rocket launchers will deal 10% less damage, high-impact weapons will still retain their large blast radius characteristics, and adaptive and aggressive rocket launchers will increase their damage. Other upcoming changes include an overhaul of air combat, some massive buffs in the Exotic weapon category, and some great sword tweaks to look forward to.
