Dragon Age: Dread Wolf – Everything We Know About BioWare’s Upcoming Fantasy RPG

🖥️

Developer BioWare first teased in December 2018 that it was working on a new Dragon Age-related project, confirming that the project is actually an untitled fourth mainline Dragon Age game nearly two years later. We haven’t heard much since, aside from some interesting information. However, as the Summer Games Festival and all non-E3 summer events approached, we learned a lot more — mostly the title of the game, Dragon Age: Dread Wolf.

With Anthem abandoned and Mass Effect: Legendary Edition completed and released, BioWare is now likely to focus on its two announced RPG projects: Dreadwolf and the all-new Mass Effect. And since we know a lot more about the game officially (unofficially) called Dragon Age 4, it might be the first game we get. Below, we’ll review everything we know about Dragon Age: Dread Wolf.

release date

Neither BioWare nor publisher Electronic Arts have officially revealed a release date for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. However, with the announcement of the Dreadwolf name, BioWare did confirm that the Dreadwolf will not be released in 2022.

In February 2022, Grubbsnax host and GamesBeat reporter Jeff Grubb stated that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is “at least 18 months away” from release, which would push the game’s release beyond August 2023.

It’s worth pointing out that both Origins and Inquisition launched in November, which aligns with Dragon Age: Dreadwolf’s post-August release date. However, we can’t rely too much on priorities here, as Dragon Age II launched in March.

what we know

While few details were shared, Dreadwolf’s name announcement does confirm that Solas will be at the center of the story. It’s no surprise that anyone who’s played Inquisition will doubt it. However, BioWare says that even newbies will be able to understand and enjoy what Solas, the titular fear wolf, does.

In BioWare: Stories and Secrets, the book containing the developer’s history, it is revealed that the main setting for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will be Tevinter — a never-before-seen, but oft-cited location in the Dragon Age franchise. Inquisition’s Trespasser expansion even teased that the series will visit Tevinter next.

Tevinter is most often mentioned for its influence and social presence. It is often referred to as one of the most powerful nations of all Thedas. With a largely human makeup, Tevinter is ruled by a council of mages.Slavery is still legal there (though outlawed elsewhere) and the whole country is Very Unfriendly terms with Qunari.

Executive producer Christian Dailey also teased fans with Dragon Age: Dread Wolf concept art. The images show knights in incredible armor, and one hints that Dreadwolf will see the return of the Grey Warden.

The Grey Wardens are an elite order of knights who protect all Thedas from the Great Demon, the old god who has become a deadly dragon. You can choose to be the Grey Warden in Origins, but not in Dragon Age II or Inquisition.

platform

We’ve yet to get word on which platform Dragon Age: Dread Wolf will be released on. However, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf reportedly won’t release on Xbox One or PS4, so we’re assuming it’ll only release on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.

Computer System Specifications

BioWare has yet to reveal the PC system specs for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

trailer

We have a Dreadwolf trailer released during The Game Awards 2020. The trailer doesn’t feature any gameplay footage, but ends with a tantalizing tease that Thoras (a very important Dragon Age character) might have a big role in this new game. We’ve embedded the trailer below.

Multiplayer Details

In February 2021, a Bloomberg report said that EA had approved BioWare to remove “all planned multiplayer components” from Dragon Age: Dread Wolf, making the RPG an exclusive single-player experience.

In December 2021, BioWare announced that Dragon Age: Dread Wolf would be a “single-player experience.” Given the very specific use of the word “focus”, technically There’s room for an online multiplayer component to be included in the smaller capacity, but it at least confirms that the game will be geared toward single-player, not multiplayer.

DLC/Microtransaction Details

BioWare hasn’t said whether Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will include DLC or microtransactions, but given the fact that Inquisition has both, it looks like the new game will too.
