If there’s one thing to know about Genshin Impact’s new regular boss, The Ruin Serpent, it’s that it moves around a lot. Too much. To reach the Ruin Serpent, you need to enter the subterranean area of the abyss and must complete the mysterious Seven Star Seal Split quest. The Serpent of Destruction costs 40 resin and also drops the unique Runefang item, which is likely to be an ascension material for future characters. It has a unique set of slime removal mechanics, so make sure your Lumenstone Adjuvant is equipped when you fight this boss. The higher your Lumenite Adjuvant level, the easier this fight will be.
How to Defeat the Serpent of Destruction
- Stun the Destruction Serpent: The boss will spit out four oozes, and at some point the Destruction Serpent will start absorbing energy from the ooze. You need to pay attention to when it starts doing this. If you purify the pool of ooze the boss is trying to absorb with your Lumenstone Adjuvant, this will stun the Destruction Serpent. A few seconds of immobility is a godsend, and you can do a lot of damage to the boss during that time.
- To charge your Lumenstone adjuvant: What if your Lumenstone adjuvant runs out of energy? Don’t worry. Periodically, geological ores will germinate in the arena. Use your character to destroy ores and restore energy.
When the Destruction Serpent begins to absorb the ooze, clear the ooze with your Lumenstone Adjuvant.
Team comparison recommendation
- bring one mobile therapist (eg Barbara, Kokomi and Diona) If your DPS is good at melee. Bennett also works if you mostly use remote roles.
- bring one Jammer (For example, Zhongli, Xinyan, and Noelle). You have to constantly chase snakes around the arena, and there are some hard-to-dodge attacks, so a shield definitely helps.
- geographical characters Also great because they can easily destroy geological ores and you can recharge your adjuvants faster.
- bring one DPS with good burst damage (such as Hu Tao and Ayaka) or remote DPS (Ganyu and Night Palace)
- Another suggestion, but definitely not required: off-board DPS (eg Fischl or Yae Miko) are also useful for constant element reactions. I use Fischl’s Oz to deal continuous damage to the Destruction Serpent (while the Serpent is on the ground). It’s nice to get extra damage when my DPS main (Diluc) hits bosses on the field.

- Sneak in and out of the ground, then perform a thrust attack. This spreads quite a distance throughout the arena. This means that the window to break it is short (since it cannot be attacked while underground), and you need to take advantage of the time it opens to attack.
- Spit out four puddles of ooze, located in the Cardinals in the arena.
- Deplete all but two of your Lumenstone Adjuvant’s energy only at the start of combat.
- A spinning attack that can get characters stuck in the middle, preventing them from clearing the ooze on one side of the arena, making it impossible to stun the Destruction Serpent.
- It also moves laterally and strikes all-out, rolling left and right. It’s very early telegram, so it’s not hard to avoid. But it will catch you off guard.
- At some point, it performs a “black hole” attack, where the player is sucked into the center of the arena.
- If you let Doom Serpent absorb energy from the ooze, it will have a ranged attack and a downward attack with a fairly large range. (Hint: you don’t want the Destruction Serpent to reach these stages!)
