Memes have become a form of expression and communication. They’re internet jokes and have been included in comic book movies all the way back to X-Men: The Last Stand (you remember the Juggernaut meme?). Now we know, at least, that Oscar Isaac worked hard to get a very interesting guy into Moon Knight.

In the fourth episode, “The Grave,” Mark and his Steven Grant character slam themselves for control of their bodies. While rehearsing and reviewing the choreography, Isaac wanted to throw in some dialogue that hinted at classic memes.

“There’s a very, very funny meme. It has an English kid with this tie on his head and he’s rapping,” Isaac explained Ash Croshan Screen rant when talking about the scene. “Then a punch came out of nowhere and hit him, and he said ‘Oh, I can’t believe you’ve done it.’ Do you know which one I’m talking about?”

Crossan began to laugh, saying that she remembered the comedian paul weedon As a teenager, he always reacted to Isaac mentioning him.

“We found an opportunity to do that,” Isaac continued. “It seemed like the perfect time to do it.”

Isaac mentioned that they took several shots of the ongoing battle and put the f-bomb into several versions of it, thinking that because it was TV, they were allowed to use it. He was misunderstood and a little heartache.

“We didn’t even get it. We had to change it, but that’s my tribute to it.”

The season finale of Moon Knight will air next Wednesday, May 4.
