Resident Evil Village gets Rose-centric sequel DLC, "Shadow of the Rose"
This year’s Halloween just in time for more stories from Resident Evil Village. A series of downloadable content developers Capcom says Winters’ expansion brings a new chapter called “Shadow of the Rose,” which continues the story of village protagonist Ethan’s daughter as she grapples with her mold-based superpower.
Capcom revealed the DLC chapters during its June game showcase, while also providing plenty of details about what the new story will cover. Shadow of the Rose begins after the ending scene players saw in the Village base game, which showed us the now-adult rose 16 years in advance. The Village ending revealed that Rose’s abilities stemmed from her parents’ exposure to the mutagenic moss at the heart of Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil VII, and characters like Chris Redfield kept a close eye on her as a result.
Rose’s story will look more psychological than the village’s original story. According to the Capcom Showcase, Rose found herself at one with the consciousness in the giant fungus, the giant mold colony beneath the village in the base game that helped spawn the village’s monsters. We learned in the village that someone infected with mold could fuse with it even after death, so who knows what she’ll find there. In the trailer, Rose meets another girl who looks exactly like her and is guided through the story by a seemingly ghostly force calling herself Michael. As Capcom points out, it’s not just monsters that threaten you in Shadow of the Rose – the world is trying to kill you, and because it exists in Ross’s consciousness rather than physical reality, it looks like the scene can distort and Change what you’re playing.

Winters’ expansion pack DLC will be released on October 28, and also provides a new third-person mode for the base game and an expansion pack for Village’s Mercenary Mode, which includes new characters and levels.
