The best custom PCs from QuakeCon 2019

Every year at QuakeCon, thousands of people set up their PCs to spend four days playing games together on a sprawling local area network. Of course, getting lost among the many other PCs motivates some high-achieving engineers to build bigger and better devices.

Frank Lloyd Wright
I love cases made of wood, but the stained glass panels on this case really caught my eye. Inspired by the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, the case features two handcrafted stained glass windows with parallel thin wooden strips on the front. A vintage typewriter keyboard and 3D printed retro mouse complete the beautiful, majestic design.

soft curve
This case was originally created to showcase a beautiful, new, curved 34-inch case. Widescreen monitor. The shell maker built a long panel of components around a custom curved metal chassis. All major components are also illuminated from behind by the softly illuminated panels pioneered for the enhanced car audio system. The effect is soft and elegant, and it matches perfectly with the curves of the monitor it exhibits.

Ginger Project
The makers of this case took a piece of live edge walnut and milled it out to carve space for each piece. The woodwork is gorgeous enough, but the display in this case is the row of wine bottles. The two bottles at both ends bubble up and the coolant flows through the PC. The three in the middle are filled with Jägermeister, peach gin and cranberry juice.If the owner of the PC logs in while the mug presses the sensor, the PC mixes and pours red-headed slut.

Zen Tower
One of the largest crowds blocking BYOC sidewalks formed around this bizarre case. The InWin Z-Tower is a spiral-shaped pure aluminum in an 11-gallon reservoir filled with water. There’s no radiator; instead, one pumps out a waterfall that spins along the shell’s torsion arms, turning the entire aluminum chassis into one giant radiator. This thing is as beautiful as it is fragile: the slightest splash hitting the components can cause a momentary short.

Rocket Launcher Generation
The otherwise standard PC case gets a nice QuakeCon-themed upgrade with orange lights, window templates, and a fully 3D-printed rocket launcher from Quake Champions. The rocket launcher spins, illuminated by a lovely red light from below.

imperial white and black
Unlike many cases, this PC has no major gimmicks or themes. The Empire logo is front and center, and the black and white color scheme is very “stormtrooper”. But for the most part, it’s just a beautifully crafted PC. Super clean wire management and a nice pair of Noctua Chromax fans stand next to the CPU’s water block.

Lichtenberg Wood
There were plenty of electrical and lightning-themed cases at QuakeCon, but not many electric blue LEDs could be as bad as this custom plank case. The case itself is welded with steel bars, and the maple panels are attached to the sides with magnets.Manufacturers use high-voltage wires to Lichtenberg People Burn into the wood, the process is cool super Danger. Still, this PC maker passed it safely and has a great case to show it off.

arctic fur
Everything inside this boxFeelAll are cold. Icy white and blue units, white cables and clear coolant tubes filled with frozen liquid. Finally, the exterior of this case is lined with furry fur. (Fake, I hope!)

purple panel
This tall PC monster is part of a growing trend of open-air chassis, where all the various components and cooling wires are attached to a single panel. This one combines a solid white color scheme with dark purple coolant and water blocks, and it works well.

Hamster Power
Built into the back wall of an ordinary plastic hamster cage, the tiny computer comes with a climbing tunnel, observation ball and a toy hamster running on wheels. It’s cute and colorful, but a closer look reveals the hamster’s eyes are hollow, wires are soldered into his brain, and a piece of aluminum foil holds his tiny skull together. Forced to run endlessly, chained to the computer he was powering, the reluctant engine of his own enslavement.
Great idea, though!
