21 classic DnD RPGs and a city builder come to Steam

Strategic Simulations, Inc. – or SSI – released a slew of Dungeons & Dragons games in the late 80s and early 90s. The gold-plated box art eventually gave the line the “Golden Box Series” moniker, and while they weren’t the first CRPGs, they went a long way in establishing the format standard. Now, you’ll soon be able to play these classic RPG games on Steam.

Publisher SNEG has announced that 22 classic D&D games will be coming to Steam on March 29, 2022. The games will be bundled into themed bundles — for example, the Lover’s Eye trilogy will be a one-time purchase — although a handful, including the D&D city-building game Stronghold: Kingdom Simulator, will launch separately.

The games are packaged in custom DOSBox builds for better performance, and a special Gold Box launcher is designed to make it easier to transfer your characters between games.Includes fan-made tools like the All-Seeing Eye and the Gold Box Companion, offering features like auto-mapping and an improved HUD

These games are already available on Steam, but there is no price yet. The same packs were released on GOG in 2015 – these DRM-free versions range in price from $6 to $10, depending on the size of the collection. Here’s what’s included in each.
