AMD Radeon and Nvidia GeForce GPUs are finally getting cheaper

The best graphics cards from AMD and Nvidia have remained out of reach over the past few years, with components selling well above MSRP. However, with the severity of the chip shortage and the continued decline in demand from crypto miners, we seem to be slowly returning to the good old days of normal GPU pricing.
According to a report by 3DCenter (via WCCF Tech) analyzing the cost of Radeon and GeForce graphics cards in Germany, prices for both the RX 6000 and RTX 3000 series are at their lowest levels since January 2021. GPUs now sell for 35-41% above MSRP on average, which is undoubtedly annoying, but definitely cheaper than the peak of 200-318% in May of the same year.
However, the level of inflation varies by model, with the AMD RX 6800 and Nvidia RTX 3080 being the most affected, averaging 55% above MSRP. So while it’s best to be patient before upgrading your gaming PC with a new graphics card, it’s not the best time in over a year.
Hopefully, the upcoming release of several GPU lineups, namely Intel Arc Alchemist, Nvidia RTX 4000 and AMD’s RX 6000 refresh ahead of RDNA 3, will also push the price of current-gen graphics cards down even further. It’s worth keeping in mind that while we expect significant performance gains from these cards, the performance offered by the likes of the RTX 3000 and RX 6000 will still be adequate for years to come, and could offer great value.

We could also see the used market flooded with graphics cards from crypto mining farms, similar to what we saw last year in China. All in all, things are looking a lot brighter for those looking to upgrade in the near future.
