AMD will fix Windows 11 TPM stutter on Ryzen CPUs

Windows 11’s TPM requirements have left many people looking to upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system confused at best and frustrated at worst. However, even those with qualifying gaming PCs that meet the prerequisites will live with their own frustrations with TPMs, especially those with Ryzen processors. Thankfully, AMD is working on a fix.

AMD said in a support article on its official website that it has determined that the cause of these stuttering issues is related to “extended fTPM-related memory transactions in SPI flash.” Users will need to apply a BIOS patch to permanently fix the problem, which the company expects to roll out in early May.

Also, if you cannot live without this feature, AMD recommends that you install a hardware TPM module. If you can ditch it now, users report that disabling fTPM in the motherboard’s BIOS does not negatively affect system performance, but we recommend proceeding with caution.

Alternatively, it might be a better idea to restore your system to Windows 10, knowing that you’re getting the most out of AMD’s best gaming CPU.

Despite these issues, the number of Windows 11 PCs continues to grow and is rapidly surpassing Windows 10 in popularity among Steam users. However, if Microsoft executes unpopular plans, such as requiring an internet connection to install Windows 11, growth of the operating system could be hampered. We can only hope they don’t.
