Apex Legends has two types of Ranked matches: Ranked and Ranked Battle Royale, the points you earn are divided, if you reach the highest rank in Ranked Battle Royale, this will not affect your Ranked Arena status has no effect. Apex Legends Season 12 won’t change the rating system in the rankings, but there are plenty of new additions that should make a difference for the highest-tier competition.

To surpass the lowest ranked Bronze rank, you must first meet the Ranking Points (RP) threshold. While a streamer has managed to move from the bottom to the top in a single match, the process will take most people weeks or even months to slowly climb the ranking ladder. Here’s everything you need to know about the Apex Legends ranking system, including ranking tiers, penalties, and rewards on offer.

Apex Legends Season 12 Ranked Split Map

The first half of the Apex Legends Season 12 Ranked Battle Royale takes place on Olympus. The second half of the season map changed to Kings Canyon.

Apex Legends Ranked Battle Royale Rating

There are seven tiers in Apex Legends, and each tier (except for Masters and Apex Predators) is divided into four parts: starting with IV and ending with I. Each tier has an RP threshold that you must reach to level up. Beyond the Bronze tier, players must pay to play RP ranked games.

Here are the Apex Legends ranking ranks, along with RP thresholds and RP entry requirements:

Hierarchy RP cost RP threshold
bronze free 0 Invert
silver 12 Inverted 1,200 RP
gold 24 Invert 2,800 RP
platinum 36 Invert 4,800 RP
Diamond 48 Invert 7,200 RP
master 60 RP 10,000 RP
top predator 60 RP Top 750 players

Apex Legends Ranking Battle Royale RP Distribution

The amount of RP each player earns depends on their position, as well as a multiplier that increases based on the number of kills and assists earned per match. The RP system was changed in Season 11 to emphasise kills and the rank of killed players. For example, if a gold player kills a gold player, they will get 8 points. If the same player kills the Apex Predator, they will get 20. The kill and assist multipliers have also been increased from 6 to 7, providing greater rewards for skilled players.

If you end the game without any kills and finish outside the top ten, you may lose more RP than you started with. Assuming they rank first with seven kills or assists, you can get up to 250 RP in a single match. With the changes implemented in Season 11, aggressive underdogs can earn up to 175 RP by killing high-ranked players without ever breaking into the top ten.

Apex Legends Rank Split

Each ranked season has two seasons, one at the start of the season and the other at the middle of the season.you can expect a map change During the split, players are given a second map to test their skills. Splits soft reset each player’s level – usually this means halving your RP, dropping you to a lower level. For example, a highly ranked gold player might find himself back in silver.

Apex Legends Rank Rewards

The reward each player receives is based on their highest ranking in any one match. If you reach gold in the first half and diamond in the second half, you will be rewarded with diamonds.Rewards earned vary based on your level – complete Diamond or higher badgeOne Weapon Cosmeticsand a diving trail. If you manage to achieve the same rank throughout the season, you will receive a shiny badge.

Apex Legends Ranked Play with Friends

While it’s possible to play with your friends in ranked, you’ll need roughly the same skill level to join the party. To counter boosters, the developers are very strict about the party requirements. Once you reach platinum, the rank gap between your friends must either be higher or lower than 1, or the same as your rank.

This restriction does not apply to Bronze, Silver or Gold players, but there are other restrictions. If Gold I players team up with Bronze IV players, Bronze players will be forced to play in lobbies filled with powerful opponents from Gold and above. Each player only pays the RP requirement for their tier to participate, despite playing on harder matches.

Apex Legends Ranked Loss Prevention

Sometimes you are forced to take an L through no fault of your own. In these cases, you won’t lose any RP through the loss prevention system. In fact, you can actually get RP if you keep going and successfully kill a few people before dying. Also, if you decide to keep playing and you die without killing anyone, you won’t lose any RP.

The developers highlighted three scenarios for activating loss prevention:

  • When your teammates drop the game (not applicable if you started the game with a prefab squad)
  • If your game stops unexpectedly
  • Once you start the drop sequence and you start the game without a teammate

If you’re having issues with your internet connection or PC, you may want to avoid ranked matches in Apex Legends. Although you can indeed reinstate loss forgiveness if your game stops running, this only applies 3 times throughout the season. The developer will penalize you if your game continues to be interrupted during the match.

Apex Legends Ranking Penalties

Once your loss prevention measures are used up, you will start getting penalized if you drop the game. This starts from the moment you start the game until your banner expires. If at any point you can redeploy into the match, you may be penalized if you leave the match early.

Here are the penalties for withdrawing from ranked play in Apex Legends:

  • You will lose any RP earned during the match. On top of that, your RP entry cost is doubled, forcing you to lose at least 24 RP depending on your level
  • You cannot access any game modes for at least ten minutes
