Batman tops $500 million at global box office

According to Deadline, Batman grossed $505.8 million worldwide. As the world explores and imagines what life might be like post-COVID, the DC blockbuster is the eighth film since theaters reopened and the fifth Hollywood movie to break the impressive half-billion mark.

The news wasn’t nearly as shocking as it was earlier this week, when it was reported that in its second week, Batman was once again the No. 1 box office. It sold for just over $500 million and was the fourth-highest-grossing studio version of the pandemic era.

Despite the polarisation of critics for the superhero film, audience turnout remained strong — no doubt helped by Pixar and Disney’s March 11 release of “Turning Red” for Disney+ . “Batman” cost about $200 million to make — excluding ongoing marketing campaigns — meaning the film is charting a course for an overall strong and profitable release. It’s worth reiterating that the film’s three-hour run time apparently didn’t intimidate fans — neither did the last-minute ticket additions from AMC, Regal, and Cinemark. There were even reports of a “prank” release of a live bat in theaters that didn’t put fans off.

Batman is directed by Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), with Robert Pattinson as Batman. The rest of the cast includes Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon.

At GameSpot, we gave the film a 6/10 in our Batman review. Critic Mason Downey wrote: “It’s a Gotham movie that’s both familiar and new, solid and weird. If Batman has a major trick, it should be replicated in future live-action adaptations. , that’s it.”
